Sigh, my daughter has been a little affected by those rumours about NJC being a boring mugger school. Well I told her that she doesn't need to worry, as she can already see for herself that junior high life has been really \" happening \" , but maybe the mugger connotation only applies to the current JC students of NJC.

But it's still just a rumour afterall, I believe and hope. Has your son ever came across this rumour?
Yes, heard that NJ is a mugger school ... but dont think this is happening at Junior High level. My girl in JH1 is really so happy there and enjoying school so much desspite having to get up super early every monring.

I hear that all around, but well, i think the kids are not affected by that rumour - gee, who cares.

I didn't hear anything about the rumour. But that is because I don't know anything about NJC until my girl gets into NJC.

But why bother about that ? Presently I think most, if not all, students in NJC (or at least in JH1) are very happy ... I think it is very important for the students to be happy in the school they are in ...

Today's Straits Times section D has an interesting report on ex-IP students leaving IP to enter polytechnic. Get your child to read the articles. One ex-RI IP students said RIJC is a mugger environment. So take some comfort that if NJC is really a mugger sch, it is not alone

Anyway, my boy is definitely not one of the mugger. I think in any schools, there are sure to be those who are not the mugger type and still learn to enjoy life. Just my 2cts

Like dunno said, every IP programme is different so how to compare ?

But my girl is happy there. I think it is a good place for them to develop & realize their potential ...

Also, we paid for sec school fees but gotta enjoy JC facilities ...

The boarding school good experience & is the only one so far in Spore. The Principal said that this Boarding Programme is very expensive to run but we only pay peanuts for it bcos it is highly subsidized ...
Not really, HCI has its own Integrated boarding programme. But that one's expensive and not compulsary.

I think she meant that : it's the only school with a compulsory boarding programme šŸ™‚

But either way, I'm supportive of NJC's boarding programme ( inclusive of those non-boarding enrichments ) as I'm sure my child will benefit.

BTW, one of their boarding programmes was inline skating, how was it? My daughter had a really bad fall and refused to talk about this inline skating course.

And boarding term is cheap too.

Inline skating - too short. Only a few sessions, right? My boy already figured out how to rollerblade at 4yo, and they had it as enrichment in p1/p2 as well, so he didn't find the njc sessions exciting enough.

Nothing much said abt the inline skating prog. Maybe it's becos my boy already knows the how-to and hv bn skating at East Coast Park.

I tried learning inline skating, finds it difficult as I could not control the heavy skates (not enough leg muscles :? ). My P3 boy also falls every now and then.

Jennifer, you need good skates. It makes a lot of difference. You mostly need thigh muscles only. I love rollerblading instead of jogging.

                      Oh I see šŸ™‚

By the way, my niece is not sure which school ( NY / NJC ) is better for her. I advised her to try out the DSA for both and see how, but she wants an answer. After speaking to my children, she is still caught in between the two choices.

Any advice for her? She is a vibrant, cheerful and rather outspoken girl. No preference as to sec / co-ed, but sis in law prefers co-ed as she thinks gina needs to learn how to communicate with boys, but my bro in law values billingualism. She does fairly well, normally top 5 in class. So... I'm not sure what to tell her and she demands an answer! šŸ˜ž
