My daughter is interested in going to SCGS but has concerns about the sleeveless uniform as she has some scars on her arm. She'd liked to know if it's ok to wear the school jacket during the school day instead of just when it's cold in the morning. Anyone able to advise please?Thank you grownearethesky.
Just wondering anyone can advise whether the girls are allowed to wear their own jacket to school in the morning or they can only wear the school approved jacket? If they can only wear the school approved jacket, where can we purchase it from as my girl is afraid of coldness in the morning?
Thank you. -
The End of Year Exam is coming to an end. Just like to know why the standard of the exam paper is so high compare to other school.
For Secondary 3 students, how many subjects that they require to pass in order to promote to Secondary 4. Is there a retake of exam paper if the student fail the papers -

It's ok to wear the school jacket during the school day if your dd can stand wearing it in the hot weather especially in the afternoon. -

You can get a detailed promotion criteria for your dd's level in the handout on \"Assessment Policy and Framework\" which was given to parents during the level briefing to parents in the beginning of the year. -

based on latest 2015 SCGS (Full school) Secondary 1 cohort / batchWould anyone here know how the SCGS affiliation works from Primary School to Secondary School?
Is there a cut-off?
(born 2002 : sat for PSLE 2014, last year)
Cut off point
a)
sitting for GCE O level
- if pupil come from SCGS primary (affliated) : 220
- if pupil come from all other primary schools : 251
difference of T-score (between affliated pupils vs. outsiders)
251 - 220 =
31 points, T-score difference (very huge !)
b)
sitting for IP (Integrated Curriculum program) GCE \"A\" level
(bypass O level)
IP : No affliation
Cut off point : 252
difference of T-score (between IP track and O level track)
252 - 251 =
1 point, T-score difference
(insignificant difference) -

in reply to linday, as a sec 4 i do agree the papers are quite hard in scgs HAHA! good examples would be amath and physics (at least for the o level stream, according to my own experience last year). our school tries to push students so that they will be relaxed and comfortable taking the actual O Levels! that means that students are stretched and made to ponder more complicated questions to concretize their understanding of concepts. especially since its upper sec, the focus is on ensuring the students are getting prepared for Os so 1) its ok not to do EXTREMELY well (its v normal in fact) but of course it just means that you have to work harder, not to be complacent! 2) do not be too demoralized, instead try and understand the hard qns and you will find it benefitial later. for example, i am a physics student and although i rly enjoy the subject i am not a science person and need more time than my classmates to understand physics concepts, especially the more abstract or in depth ones. thus, i haven’t been doing very well in sc papers, honestly my whole sec 4 year my best physics grade was a B4 HAHA and at first I was quite worried but then I tried the O Level TYS and realized I was scoring consistent 75-85 A1s throughout the papers… it really is a breeze compared to sc’s papers
also, most top O Level schools also have standards this high in their papers. for example for practice we have been doing amath papers from various schools and i must say the anglican high and crescent girls papers and as tedious and difficult! so your child is not alone hehe (and her classmates/teachers should be more than willing to help if she doesnt understand anything) -
Hi, my girl going Sec 1 next year. We are considering SCGS IP. Does anyone knows if Malay a compulsory subject and if yes, for how many sec years? Thanks.

Can anyone share the syllabus for Sec 3 and Sec 4 Physics, Biology and Chemistry? Do they teach the Sec 1 and Sec 2 topics again or move ahead? Thanks.

Hi there, the full syllabus for the O'levels 2015 subjects can be found in this link that i have attached:
http://www.seab.gov.sg/pages/nationalEx ... _GCE_O.asp
as for your other question, yes, we do touch on some of the sec 3/4 topics in lower sec. However, it is really minimal as compared to the upper sec content. In view that majority students in sc will take chemistry in upper sec, lower sec chemistry lays the foundation for the upper sec content. Phy and Bio are the take one or both subject(s) in upper sec so most of its content in lower sec only skim the surface of the upper sec content. Kind of like a tryout thing. For eg in Bio class, we learnt the plant transport system in lower sec (2) and touched it again in upper sec (3) but this time with a much larger content scope.
