who runs HOME? keep hearing about them and it just sounds like they are very troublesome people to deal with who are not interesting in finding a solution but to create more problems

At the same day of making police report, we buy a plane ticket with future date flight date or the day itself ? If the maid stay to assist in investigation then she will not be boarding the plane based on the plane ticket we bought for her. Are we still liable to ensure she is repatriated back.

Buy the airticket with the earliest date & cancel work permit (repatriation). If the maid has to stay back for any investigation, yes, as HOPES put it, it will be a pushing game between all different parties.
The regulation simply say \"an employer is responsible to pay for repatriation cost\". The regulation didn't say \"regardless of whether the employer has already tried to repatriate the maid before, in the event that the maid has to stay back for investigation, the employer is also liable to repatriate her after investigation\".
If the employer has ALREADY PAID for the plane ticket (keep the ticket invoice), then the employer has fulfilled her part responsibly and why should she pay again for someone else's nonsense? I would follow MOM's regulation to the letter and if they choose to be unclear, that's their problem. -

I just got a new maid n she is so far so good.
Humble, motherly n caring to my children, clean n tidy the housewell. But cannot speak n understand Eng. Again she is willing to learn. Haha! we teach her 3 sentences per day.
For me, if i need a maid, I w keep on trying, not afraid of returning a maid till get a good maid. Never afraid of changing a agent too…
Million woman in Indo work overseas. If half sincerely want a job, the number is very significant to this little red dot.
No need to waste my time on attitude maid.
They w never understand everybody need to work hard to earn a living. -

I just received my new maid in 2 weeks plus. I only thought there is restriction imposed for Philippines and Myanmar. But now I have to replace her just barely a week as she's afraid of dogs when we have highlighted clearly we have a small poodle dog at home!Some small agencies I spoke to told me their indo. maid can reach spore in 2-3wks and when I called a bigger agency like Nation maid agency, was told it'll take 2 mths for the maid to arrive spore, due to some MOM regulations, which that guy said small agencies doesn't adhere too...
Why the difference in timing? What's the truth? Can someone pls help me with an explanation?

as the worker’s legal entitlement to a rest day is not mandatory, workers have no effective bargaining power. Whether due to financial pressure or the coercive influence of employers having the power to cancel a work permit without notice and repatriate a worker, research shows that 40% of domestic workers have less than one rest day per week. Myanmar migrant workers are often not allowed a day off as long as they have not paid off their loan, what can take months.
18.4 Blacklisting
Employers are also allowed to submit negative feedback about a worker’s behaviour to the
authorities. This potentially has the effect of having future employment bans placed on them. These discretionary and discriminatory regulations allow unethical employers to threaten and exploit workers by ‘blacklisting’ them, which affect the workers’ future work opportunities.
18.5 Wellbeing
Recent research shows that Myanmar domestic workers in Singapore are among the lowest paid group of foreign domestic workers and are the youngest group of foreign domestic workers with a median age of 28 years old, compared with the median ages of Indonesians (32 years old) and Philippines (36 years old).
It's a very dicey situation indeed for employers. Having to deal with problematic maids who are protected species so that's kind of hard. And some maids do tell lies so that makes employers situation even more vulnerable to attack. Some of the posts here talked about having a policy of non-transfer for maids who demand transfer whenever not happy but we also have people who are working very hard behind the scenes to promote the idea of transfer anytime. Even the food employers served can be a cause of complaints from FDW. And this might be used as an allegation of abuse or mistreatment of maids - not enough food given, starving the maids. Their word against yours.
Anyway the idea of RIGHTS is always from the viewpoint of the advocate. If I am fighting for my rights, I will ONLY SEE THINGS FROM MY PERSPECTIVE. Right? -

So do be careful. If the maid seem too young, better don’t run the risk of employing her. Err on the side of caution. -

Here Sin eat bread only as breakfast n always hungry.
In that case, half of us r facing issue with maid right??? -

This social and charity organization also plays on the sympathy of the public by GENERALISING the plights of domestic workers in singapore in order to garner support ($$$) and sympathy for their cause. How are we to know if nowadays maids are still starved by their employers? How are we to know how many maids are making a claim that employers don't feed them well? It could well be ONE OR TWO maids from a decade ago, were starved and ran away and gave their stories, and such stories are played and re-played again and again, each time getting more attention than ever, in particular from the domestic workers themselves. :siao: -

They (the Myanmarese) are paid less than the average monthly salary of S$515. Their median age is 28 years old, compared with Indonesians (32 years old) and Filipinas (36 years old). Some workers are as young as 16 when they arrive in Singapore..
So I have underpaid my young underaged maid cos I paid only $450 which is the standard price across singapore I heard, for 1st timer, no english, no experience teenage maid.
So if HOME finds out I could be charged with illegal employment of child labour. And to think that I believed my agency & my maid when I signed on the dotted line, that my maid was 24 years old.
Yet I have to fight tooth and nail with MOM, show concrete evidence, state my case, make threats, basically making myself a nuisance at MOM just to get a ban on her, not out of spite or resentment but all this, to protect this silly girl from being 'exploited again' and to stop her coming into singapore again to create nonsense for OTHER SINGAPOREANS on promises of EVEN higher salary (after only 8 months work), easy work, nice shopping and rich boyfriends.
Beware that some terms could be twisted in favour of the domestic worker:
- live-in work conditions = \"Exploitative work conditions\".
- different diet = nutritional neglect
- maid sleeping in a room where employer can enter too, employer checking their handphones, employer checking their things = invasion of personal privacy
- not allowing handphones = denying their basic rights
- No off day but paid = social isolation
- No going out but there is an off day, no need to work = social isolation
