Jennifer:hahaha ... I like the way you put it ... I must start reflecting if I am becoming so as well!
NS might train the boys to be more independent.
Once the boys turn to men and then become older men as the years go by, they suddenly become dependent again.

daughter's EL paper 2 today...yesterday, the teacher told her class to be prepared for a tough one...to me, it makes no difference whether it is a 'can do' or tough paper because it just pushes notch up to my anxiety for her comprehension OE/cloze.
Results are relative. I usually don't quite bother myself with my girls' grades. Instead, I look at her performance relative to her class, and more importantly, her cohort. My philosophy is that as long as she's about at the 50 percentile, good enough for me!
So yes, tough paper or not, it doesn't matter. Good to challenge the kids. -
RE: All About Life Without Maids
janet88:
What is tough and what is fussy can be relative. I have experienced one that simply complain at everything she needs to do though her required tasks were clearly explained to her at the agency. Well, if anyone of you have a good maid today, do try to retain her. Taking a new maid is like gambling, it is all on your luck.gvyong:
My bro in law's maid now dun wan to work, only after 2 months wanna go back agency change employer. My sis in law already a very chin chai home maker! Maids today are total wusses! Support machines and automation.
if possible, send the maid home so that she doesn't get her way.
maids are experts in choosing employers...if work is tough or employer is fussy, they want to have a change  -

RE: Do your kids play online game?
We as parents need to watch what our kids are playing online. Some of those seemingly simple games for young schooling kids, requires buying of credits using credit card to continue playing. Your innocent child may not even know that he or she is "spending" money when they enter in your credit card details!

I believe you can start your girl first on music as young as 2-3 years old. For piano, I think 3-4 years old is already good enough to start. I started mine at about 6 years old and realised that they could have started much younger.
I am also considering music classes or ballet. Would it be tto young to start? Anyone knows what's the recommended age to start them?BabiesNU:
I put my 2 girls on piano and music lessons. May want to consider and should start young as well.
As for ballet, I can't help on that. -

RE: Children with sweaty palms and soles
Maple leaf:
I think I will take any kind of surgery as the last resort
Many years back, a foreign friend of mine had this surgery. She told me it was a long queue for this surgery. She told me it was minimally invasive.I thought she told me was a small incision under her armpit to \"remove a sweat gland\".And she was elated with the result. She said she used to be very embarrassed when she went dating .and need to hold hands with her date as sweats were dripping from her palms .Kittycatz:
As a last resort, if all options are not working well for you, you can go for a sympathectomy, a surgery to remove the nerve that sends message messages to your brain for sweating. The surgeon will open a hole near your chest and reach inside your underarm to remove the nerve. It is definitely a very invasive way to stop excessive sweating. Do consider it well before embarking on it. If it is not for a life threatening health issue, I do not see why a person should go under the knife.
.
Didn't know need to open a hole near the chest. :scared: -
RE: Maid who tell lies

Thank you for sharing. Sigh. Guess I just have to take this head on. Hope I get a better replacement maid :xedfingers:BabiesNU:
Just got a new maid from Indonesia, and guess what ... despite having deliberately made known to the maid during the Skype interview that we have a dog and she is okay to look after dogs, walah! She arrived in Singapore and we now realized she is afraid of dogs!
I am returning the maid back to the agency to get a replacement. But what else can I do? They lie, they come here, and we suffer the consequences. Sigh. :slapshead:
The agent we got the helper from told us their helpers are very professionally trained in all aspects from child care, elderly care, pets care, household chores, cooking...etc. They are able to communicate well in English. Domestic helper skilled in domestic chores. Being one inexperienced and naive new employer, I thought that is the expected. Particularly, our current helper has 9 months of training in their training center and highly recommended. Wow! 9 months! Must be superb good!
When she arrived, we have to teach her ABC, 123, read time, colors, shapes, how many days in a week, how many hours in a day, how to wash hands, how to eat, how to use cutlery, how to clean, how to do her work... ...etc. We cook for her, make sure she has 4 balanced meals per day, undisturbed sleep, sufficient rest ... ... when she is sick, she got paid sick leave and we do the work for her. Soon enough, we realized we got a new baby!
What to do? Take it or leave it ... ... This is such an ugly industry. After this one is done, I don't think I'll ever want another domestic helper.
