It was already cut down from 450 (2004 year 1) to 400 now. I hope Rgs does not cut down the enrollment. As Rgs always takes the students upto 3% of whole singapore. This means if u have the scholarship, then u are safe to enter the Rgs. Rgs can not drop their standard for enrollment year one.
10 yrs ( 2004 vs 2014 ), the childbirth rate has fallen to new low record which may determine enrollment intake. For 2015 Yr 1 batch which my DD is in, there’s a total of 13 classes - appx 400 students.
Hi, GiftedGem,
Thanks for the reply. May be birth rate is one of the factor which rgs dropped the enrollment Y1. Hopefully 2016 intake for Year 1 still remain as 400. Also RGS can not dropped their standard to the lower cut off point as RGS need maintain their high standard. This is what my girl told me. -

From what I know, Y3's are by grouped by their subject combi's (including their subject RA's) only. My DD is in Y2 this year so maybe someone else can confirm this.
I believe RGS have the same syllabus as RI being in a Raffles family.. I'm not the right person to answer this just yet though..lol..
Yes, as fr my DS, he is grouped according to their subjects combi in Y3. And the good thing is, in my opinion, they are not grouped based on their Y2 GPA result. Meaning u can hv students who got GPA >3.6 in the same class as the ones who achieved < 2.8. Except tat the better ones can do triple science..
Any RGS students/parents can cfm this..cos my DD is also embarking the Raffles family soon..
& is the new RGS campus opp RI..aft dat Braddell Hill turn? I believe theres an empty land space there..
Many thanks all..[/quote]
Triple Science classes in RI is divided into 2. Higher GPA and lower GPA. Cut-off GPA point depends on the cohort. No segregation for other subjects combi. -
My daughter is in RGS Yr4. As far as I know, the girls are grouped by subject combination and not GPA. Girls taking the various subject RAs will also be grouped together for timetabling convenience. I’m not sure that there are any combinations (eg. triple science) which are only for those with higher GPAs. In general, a girl is unlikely to want to take a subject in Yr 3 if she is weak in it (unless it’s a compulsory one).

In Rgs year 3 is based on the subject combination not by GPA. If u are at RA class, then it could be all the smarted students grouped together. Three-sciences subject is also base on the subject combination. First a few classes are RA classes.

FYI, the Yr 3 students next year will be allowed to take 8 subjects instead of 9. Not sure how many opting for it tho.

Thanks all fr the clarification…
Hope the intake for future Rgs Y1 will be more with the new campus in sight… -

Thanks for update. My girl wanted to try RA chemistry at JC. As Economics is not preq for university and a lot of students felt the difficult for learning it. She may choose other humanities subject. :thankyou: -

I haven't heard this, and my daughter is considering Chem RA too. She is planning to take Econs as her contrasting subject though. Your daughter should ask someone to double-check since she's concerned.Hi, All,
