In Pei Hwa primary, Tr handpick & select pupils for Maths Olympaid training, from certain classes.
What kind of criteria Maths Tr looking for, to identify students, best to clarify with your child's Maths subject Tr / Hod : how they select MO candidates ?

School will register these pupils for Maths Olympaid (MO) contest, against other primary schools.
Parents cannot register their child, individually, to enter Maths Olympaid contest.

The same apply to Science Olympaid, have to go through school submission, not individual, because they are representing the school, to compete against other primary schools, so school will send in school team, be it Science or Maths Olympaid. (MO)

More schools send in representative, for Maths Olympaid.
Every year, many schools participate in MO.
Not so many schools, participate in Science Olympaid (SO), compared to MO

For SO -
Some schools : in some year participated in SO, other years did not.
If for that year, can't find suitable candidates of right calibre, school may not participate in SO

Anyone knows the prices of the food or variety of food sold in the canteen? I brought my niece to ntuc the other day, and she was excited picking up a corn snack as she says she enjoys buying that in school. The unusual thing is the snack is being sold for $1.00 at school while it was $0.75 at ntuc (regular price). Apparently my sister gives her an allowance of $5 a day, which my niece complains is not enough as things are expensive in school. Packet drinks are also a dollar plus. If the prices of the snacks and drinks are higher than ntuc, I wonder what are the prices of the regular meals. Appalled actually as I always thought school food is cheaper than outside stores. Profit margins must be huge.

Thank you phtthp, Solve my problem, i plan to register external training since the space is not confirmed. Of course i want my dd can be selected. I give my daughter 8 dollar per week. She seldom drink soft drink and the most expensive food is 1.50. She think enough.this 1.5 food is prepared per service. If you order more, may 2 $.paper box drink is 50 cents to 75 cents. Plastic bottle may a litter expensive. I check with mydaughter how much for a student who can eat a lot and need soft drink every time? She said 2.5- 3$ about. But she mention some times there are game stall in canteeen to raise money for poor. Some game is up to 2 $. Some are 50 cents.suggust you go on site to avoid misunderstanding kids. My dd is stingy and she does not like to spend too much money.

Yes I made a mistake. It is the bottled drinks that are sold at a dollar plus. Have discussed with niece to stop buying so many snacks and drinks. Already told her that processed packaged snacks are not healthy although they have healthier choice labels. They are just lower calorie options without much nutrition, and only healthier because they are compared to probably worse snacks like potato chips etc. Wonder if the school would take suggestions to ask the vendor to sell cut fruits and freshly blended fruits juices or home made drinks instead of packet and bottled drinks. Packet drinks and bottled drinks can simply be sold using vending machines. It is good to know that main meal options are $1.50. Wasn’t aware of game stalls. Thanks for the information will probably visit on site to check it out soon.

Time flies… It is time to bid farewell to this thread. I rated myself as the least kiasu parent in the forum but I benefited plenty from the amount of information that I gathered in the portal. Those were the days that we could openly share in this particular thread and poking fun at each other. I really treasured those moments and missed parents like IJJ, E3, Happy Mama, FQW, dyh, Trapwithin, Funx3, Jennifer, JoeeYee, janet_lee88 and many others. Those days, I looked forward to E3’s posting and Trapwithin’s for his reflection. All eyes were glued to this thread and if we happened to blink our eyes, this thread would jump by 10 pages. The BBQs we had were fun and my dd is still talking about them till now. To date, we still remain friends even though our kids are in different schools.


It was not a plain smooth sailing journey for my girl. Like many parents, I had high expectations from her initially. I exected her to be at least top 3 in class. I expected her to clear the GEP but when that didn’t go her way, I began to concern whether she was selected for TTLT or E2K programme. Everything just didn’t fall in place for her because I didn’t realise she was just an average kid. I learnt along the way and I freed the kite one day. She studied at her own pace and was coping well in school. At least to me personally, PH is a good school and she enjoys her school days here.

The school has laid a good foundation for her academically and she is looking forward to embark on her new journey. It was a bonus to us that she was successfully DSAed into her dream school. The final piece just fell in place for her, at least.

Here wishing all the kids all the best in their examination.

Dear Phtthp, do you know which day they give this training for the maths Olympiad? now I will register her in other tuition but I donot want these two course at a same time If my dd is luck to be selected? I will register my dd course on Friday afternoon and Saturday morning.

Yeah.. i will also like to know why did they propose us to get 3 sets of PE attire and only 1 set of uniform...
I may be heading to get the books and uniform tomorrow... Not sure if too early
BTW, I also notice that the class is also already allocated?? Wonder if anyone in P1/7? ( Or did i misinterpret the number.. :P? )

Thanks php !!! Will miss your advice along with the rest whose kids have moved on to secondary school....it was a great gang who helped a lot of other parents !!! I'm quite thankful that some of those you quoted still advise me separately when I approach them.
