CHIJ TPY is going to a holding site at 3 Geylang Bahru Lane for school Y2011 & Y2012 and will shift back to its current premises in Lor 1 TPY from and including school Y2013. So, if your daughter is coming in Y2012, she’ll be @ Geylang Bahru for a year before going back to TPY.[/quote]

Thanks guppy for the enlightenment. So P1 is normally in which session?

From next year, all the primary levels will be in the morning session. Currently, P1s are in the afternoon session.

                Hi Mummies,

I've lost touch with IJ culture...can any mummy advise me if there is equal emphasis on EL and Chinese ? Do all the girls move up to P2 and stay in same class ? I would really like to get more info. Thanks 🙂

                    Hi Janet,
Sori for late reply. Didn't log in until today. Not much homework in P1 unless the girl has not finished the work at school. Initially, that was the case with my dd as she writes quite slowly but after 2 months or so, no more work brought home.
There's a little homework on a daily basis in P2 though. But tolerable. Usually a journal/compo every fortnight to be done during the weekend.

                      Hi Janet,
Looking at timetable, there's 13 half hr blocks of Mother Tongue and 15 half hr blocks of English. So, not sure if that means slightly more emphasis on English but usually English teacher is also Form teacher so, they would use part of the time to do the admin work. My dd moved up with her same P1 classmates to the same P2 class. No streaming done at end of P1 level except for Chinese. After P1 mid year, they assign girls to different Chinese classes based on their results. They do that again after P1 final year.

                        Hi Guppy,

It’s ok…I appreciate the time you take to reply my queries.

So I guess P1 is manageable and there is a short ‘honeymoon’ stage until SA1. Based on your daughter’s timetable, it looks like there is slightly more emphasis on English.

Your daughter moved up to P2 together with her P1 classmates…that’s nice…bcos she doesn’t have to start all over and make new friends. I’m surprised the gals are ‘streamed’ based on Chinese results.

Thanks…I know what to expect now…ie if my daughter successfully gets into the school (Phase 2A2)…hahaha. Better not count the chickens before they hatch.
