Hello - Any parent/ child with experience in the Special Arts Programme (SAP)?

How does one apply to join? Is a portfolio needed? And how will joining SAP impact the A levels ie.. is this a subject which can replace a Humanities subject?

      Thanks for the sharing! πŸ˜„

Hi: Does anyone have more details about the Special Arts Programme (SAP)? TIA!

P shared during this year’s Y1 breakfast with the P session that there is no "O" level track / class in RGS. There are ample support channels provided to help weaker students.

Overall gpa is average of the individual gpa, depends on subject grouping eg core subjects plus electives

Are there easily-discernable reasons? Like needing time to adjust, coping with CCA, too much time on the phone... Is there an uptrend or has it been at this level all year? If you can see a reason, then you can probably do something. Anyway, see what the teachers say.

I think Y1 student will fall the scores as they need time to adapt the new env. Some students will fall the first semester, my girl even failed her history and geo subject, later they will know what to do for the subject, the GPA will increase. But as parents always give them support. Rgs has some remedial lesson if u failed the subject.

hi! to add on to this:

overall gpa means adding up all the individual gpa of the 5 core + best 2

                      so thats:
                      core:
                      1. English
                      2. Math (either math if you're in Year 3/4)
                      3. Mother Tongue
                      4. 1 Science
                      5. 1 Humans

                      +
                      best 2:
                      any two remaining subjects

and then you divide this number by 7 (because 7 subjects)

                      so if you get
                      4.0+4.0+4.0+4.0+4.0+3.6+4.0 = overall gpa of 3.94

                      hope this helps!

                        slmkhoo:
It's true that VIA hours don't affect them in the sense that it isn't needed for bonus points for entry to Yr5. But it's still an MOE requirement, and it's also a requirement for the Raffles Diploma. I think the minimum is 6hrs a year or something quite low?

Anyway, I think it's good for all kids to do VIA. In particular, kids in such schools where many come from comfortable homes and are likely to themselves lead lifestyles of above-average affluence need to be shown a balanced view of society. There are lots of different VIA opportunities to suit all inclinations - in-school ones, with kids or the elderly, using your hands, selling flags...
                        Yup, it's 6 hours a year!
VIA helps to connect us to the needs of the community and I think it's really important to get to know more about the world we live in through service.

To put it into perspective, typically this 6 hours is achieved through 2 hours of Open House CIP which most people would get + 4 hours through external VIA (YFC sales + flag day) or internal CMPS VIA (helping out at an event for example) so there are lots of opportunities + really manageable.

Of course, many students do more than that and I have had many friends complete 120hours and above in their 4 years. Gradually I feel that we think less of the hours as we partake in service and focus more on the activity itself so VIA is an essential part of the Raffles Programme. πŸ™‚
