Hi! May I know at which levels the students will have a change of class? I know there'll be the first change from P2 to P3. How about subsequent years? Is the allocation of classes purely based on results? Results of all subjects or specific subjects?
Any info would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Hi Serendipity, I am assuming your dc is in P2 Y2015.
In P3, those shortlisted for GEP Round 1 will be taken out & considered for TAG classes. Of course, those who clear GEP Round 2 & choose to stay in Nan Hua will form TAG2&3. Generally TAG classes have the same members from P4-6. Rotation only occurs within their form classes (GHJ). So if you are in 4HT2, you may be moved to 5JT3 the following year.
The other non-TAG classes appear to be grouped according to academic strengths, with D to F being stronger, & these are subjected to yearly review. Whether all subjects are considered or not you may wish to pose to the school on 18 Nov, perhaps during the Principal's Address. But as you may have noticed, there is a trend towards mixed ability classes. If your dc is exceptionally strong in Maths & Science (maybe 10% above cohort mean), I recommend you to do extra home coaching. It is difficult to rely on the school to stretch High Ability children in a mixed ability class.
As you are aware, Mrs Neo is leaving; the new Principal Mrs Ong (Mdm Chia Hui Khim θ°’ζ §η§¦) may have different ideas about class allocation.

Hi sky minecrafter, yes, you're right! My DD is in P2 this year. Thanks very much for your information!
So do you mean the TAG classes are actually the GEP classes in NH? Is there a difference between TAG 1, 2 and 3?
I hear there are twinning classes too? Which are the twinning classes? Are they actually classes GHJ? Are there non-TAG students in GHJ?
Wow, a yearly review of results and class streaming is quite stressful.
I guess it's still too early to tell if my DD has any exceptional strengths. Can only hope she works hard!
Yup, I heard about Mrs Neo leaving. A pity... I quite like her. Hope the new P is good! :xedfingers:
Are your DC(s) still in NH?

Hi, GEP students are in TAG 2&3 only. TAG 1 is the twinning class, which means these children pass GEP Round 1 but not Round 2. GHJ are all TAG students only. If you look at the school staff list or E-Notification (on the Nan Hua homepage), you may get a better idea of the class stratification. So do you mean the TAG classes are actually the GEP classes in NH? The difficulty levels of Maths & Science take a jump from year to year so perhaps a yearly review is a better gauge of ability/understanding in the subject matter. It would be a good idea to build a strong Science foundation for your dc next year, while the P3 Sci syllabus is still manageable. Also, Area & Perimeter, a common topic in the GEP test. -

Oic! I think I get it now.

Thanks for your help and advice! Will certainly keep an eye on my DD's progress in her Math and Science.
The standards for HCL are pretty high too I've noticed.

Oh⦠By the way, any idea on the criteria in which students are selected for TAG 1, other than their clearing Round 1 of the GEP test?

Hi, I am guessing GEP Round 1 + decent HCL scores. TAG 1 uses mostly the same HCL materials as the GEP classes. And ι«ζ/εζη HCL materials are pitched a notch higher than the usual HCL materials. -
I see.
Which subjects does the twinning class do together with the GEP kids? -

Non-core subjects, like HCL, Music, Art, PE...
