2016 PSLE Discussions (Born in 2004)

Hi mummies,
Have been inactive :snooze: in this forum since my DS's PSLE in 2011. Time flies and he is doing his O level :rahrah: this year.
It's my DD's turn for her PSLE next year and join to learn from all mummies here again.
DD just failed Higher Chinese for SA2. Her Chinese Teacher has advised her to quit higher MT and focus on the normal Chinese.
Anyone has advice on this?
She has been with Berries since P1. I think for higher level, Berries is not so good. Thinking of changing her Tuition Centre.
Anyone heard of Mdm Zhu in Tampines? Going for a trial lesson this weekend.
Hope to learn from all mummies here!!! :lovesite: -
Drop HMT, I will also give the same advice, and focus on the 4 main subjects. If your DD do very well for PSLE, she will once again be offered HCL when she enters secondary school. One of my students, who was doing very well at P5, decided to drop HmT after P5, at his mother’s request. He got 4 A* at psle and was offered HcL at the secondary school he went to. Just my opinion.

Hi Elaine,
How is her Normal Chinese? If Normal Chinese is A* and other core subjects are strong, then it’s ok to keep HMT (provided she is interested). Just remind yourself not to scold or push her too hard for HMT.
If she is not very strong in her 4 core subjects and super stressed over HMT, then just drop it. HMT points are only applicable if you are applying to SAP schools. Dun stress her.
Normal Chinese Tuition is the one you need to get immediately. Stop Berries please. It’s only enrichment, not tuition, so it’s not suitable for upper primary kids struggling in Chinese. -
Totally agree with cherry gal.

Thanks for the advice. Her Normal Chinese is A, other subjects are ok.
I think the most important thing is she is not interested. I think it’s tough to master a language if there is no interest.
Ok, gonna drop it and focus more energy on the 4 main subjects. -
Though my DD marginally passed her HMT (She is not interested in HMT), I will have her drop the subject next year and focus on the 4 main ones. Less stress for her as well for me.

for those who are considering dropping HCL, my thoughts are; is the child spending extra time to study for HCL? If not, then I don’t see why child should not continue? For my child, I treat it like extra revision for CL when she does HCL classes we don’t do anything extra for that subject. I don’t see any additional stress from HCL.

My understanding of HMT being taught is that becos it’s so difficult, it indirectly helps in yr Normal Chinese so that NC becomes much easier.
So if it doesn’t hinder your child’s focus on the 4 core subjects, I think it’s ok to continue becos when you go to an IP or SAP Sec School, you still need to take HMT as it’s compulsory in most IP schools and all SAP schools. So having a foundation in HMT at primary level comes in useful in long run.
JMHO! -
can anyone enlighten me what marks will enable your child to get to Express, above 200? I actually have not much ideas and I think it is about time I start to check. Someone told me different schools are different for Express cut off marks and I was like :? I thought is should be standard.
Need to start my son's resting engine soon but then it seem a little \"cruel\"

Am I the only one already fantasizing about post-PSLE holiday next year while preparing for this year's holiday? Was discussing with DH how to fit in holiday dates next year...
