Hi My son 5 yrs old, a little scared of water while learning to swim.

any recommendation of good teachers who can teach for kids in sembawang area? Even morning on weekdays is ok.

Hi Just like to share - My gal’s school has this Swimming Programme complusory for P2 Students for 7 lessons. This morning she had her 2nd lesson and called me on the phone in the afternoon complaining that she does not want to go anymore. Initially I thought it might be her throwing tantrums for a small matter but she has this to say:"Mummy, I am the ONLY Girl together with 3 other boys in the group that can’t swim. And the coach only teached the boys to swim and I have to learn on my own!"

I have yet to investigate into this matter from the school. Apparently what I get to know is most of her school mates are already "good swimmers" - i.e. they have learnt the basic skills outside school hors and so not a problem for them. Whereas my gal is a complete "non-swimmer" so she tends to be slower and definitely needs more guidance.

I would like to find out from other parents - does your child school has this Swimming Programme? If No, do you send your child for separate Swimming Lesson? Or If Yes, do you mind share with us your experiences?

            Thanks alot in advance.

My nephew / nieces and my kids are all in the same school. When my nephew has the swimming lesson in school, I was a little paranoid; plus there was news around that same period that a school boy drown during one of his school swimming lesson, I decided that it might be best that I equip my children with this skill beforehand. The school’s swimming lesson is also outside school hours, so I was also hoping that if my kids clear their bronze survival test, they can be exempted from the swimming lesson.

Anyway, after my nephew’s year, I didn’t hear of anymore swimming lesson from school, but my kids have now moved on to silver and gold.

My ds was 6 yrs old when I send him to learn swimming...My eyes were always on him as I am the very gang cheong type..So there was once the coach after guiding him, the coach let go my ds for my ds to swim to the pool side which is only about 1m away..and the coach continue to teach other kids. But I felt funny when it took my ds very long to reach the side so I quickly ran the the pool side. When the coach saw me running towards them, he turned and look for my son and quickly pull him up from the water...hai yo yo my son couldn't even swim to reach the side of the pool which is only 1m away (anyway is an adult pool so quite deep)..So frightening..if I did not look at him at that moment, my son could have drown. 🙏

My DS school yet to start off with any swimming lesson yet cos I think partly he’s only in P1. But we did send him to swimming lessons outside as partly I don’t think the coach will be able to manage well with a class of 30 students. And also hope that once he know how to swim, he won’t need to attend the swimming lesson in scholl which is outside of school hours.

Thank heavens! It's very important that someone trustworthy should be looking at the kids the whole time. 1 min enough already.

DS1 (K2) is currently attending swim classes. What I observe so far is that the coach only lets one person swim at each time and watches that fella like a hawk before letting another one go. This for the beginner stage. I feel safe based on what I have seen.

so the coach was scared off by me as subsequent lessons I kept dashing to look for my son the moment I feel funny...(they change another coach for my son group eventually probably due to this haaaa)... 😉
