      CKS, wow, you too eh?

Yeah, it did get passionate. Perhaps you are right and my memory fails me, and I am looking through adult lenses. I do remember once when one of our guys provoked the opposition (Dunearn Tech) by running the flag across their lines, and was tripped…oh boy, it was a tense few minutes.

I’ll check back in 10 years when my son is playing ‘B’ division rugby!

no doubt he is wrong in throwing that punch, but isn't the punishment kind of harsh?

I'm ok with \"....banned from all school rugby activities for six months, disqualified from receiving the school colours, and will not be allowed to represent the school again...\" and the meeting with Leonard.

but why suspend from lessons? and why public apology to school?

        :?

Here's the report on the fight:

A FIGHT between opposing players and a pitch invasion that ensued, marred a keenly-contested Schools National B Division Under-17 rugby final between Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) and St Andrew's School (SAS) yesterday.

The post-match clash, which erupted immediately after the final whistle at the Old Police Academy at Thomson Road, left ACS(I) flanker Leonard David Wee with a bloodied nose and mouth.

The supporters had just started applauding the splendid display when the fracas erupted. According to ACS(I) sports secretary Chan Chee Wei, Leonard was punched in the face by an opposing player.

As the 15-year-old fell to the ground clutching his face, supporters from the two sides stormed the field and there was a lot of shoving and pushing.

Some SAS officials were seen pulling one of their players away from Leonard. The altercation was quickly stopped by officials, old boys and supporters from both sides.

The ACS(I) player was sent to Thomson Medical Centre but was discharged soon after
          ******************************************

Tankee, the punch caused injury with blood....if they don't take tough action...you will find more bloody boys on the street.

Apology is not harsh at all, a gentleman needs to know how to stand up and apologise for causing the school shame. Even if he had a valid reason to punch, the act itself made it so wrong. We fight with brains, not fists.

I kind of agree with tankee that the punishment is too harsh. Should not suspend lessons.

This incident reminds me of another brawl between ACS I and a neighbourhood school. The poor boy from the neighbourhood school was beaten by the ACS boy and he was admitted to ICU in the hospital and he spent several days there. I think the poor boy is now still in the hospital but heard he is in the normal ward now. But the funny thing is, there is not much report about this and there’s no mention of what was the punishment matted out to the attacker. If a broken tooth calls for such tough punishment, then I think the ACSI boy should be expelled from school. But I don’t think so.

Recently I also discovered another trend. Teachers are afraid of perceived influential parents. So when the kids commit bad deeds, things get shaft under the carpet without reprimanding and punishment. So what does that translate to?

how true! Teachers are worried about their rice bowls. The affluent ones will issue lawyer letters to the teachers regardless the behavior of their kids!

              teacher punish the students?

yeah..my hubby (from RI rugby) mentioned that too. He said fights were pretty common those days...but like what has been mentioned, no media coverage lah... and of course, parents were not involved.

Glad my son is not in rugby...

A good punch in the face is usually bloody.

Public apology is somewhat Japanese's style, not ours. He should apologise to the victim, victim's family and perhaps made to write an apology letter.

Absolute NO to suspension from lessons.

Actually a temporary suspension may not be a bad thing for the boy. The matter is under further investigation and he would be getting alot of heat in the school. A temporary cool-off period for him in school is also good so he will not be subjected to alot of stares in school. For all you know the temp suspension is only a few days. If it is too many days to affect his studies, his parents could raise their concerns to the school.

For blowing the matter into media, he is lucky not to face expulsion from the school for his impulsive act.

Imagine the injured boy is your son, would you say and think the same?

Thought there was further mention that someone (not sure if it’s the same ACS boy) batted a fallen SAS boy on the head, said something not quite complimentary about him and his mother. A bit like that World Cup (whatever match) where the footballer headbutted the other guy?

It’s not right to punch that guy up, I agree.

But it’s definitely not right to taunt your opponent like that. At that age, probably he felt that to whack and defend your honour is important. Complaining will only lead one to be deemed a ninny?

Out in the streets, this guy would not have just got bloodied nose - he would be in the morgue. I think if it’s true, that ACS kid should also be punished.

I think SAS has done right in suspending the kid from school colours, but suspend from class? not right. Then again, it’s their perogative. I just wish the best for boys on both sides and may they and other schools learn a lesson from this.

Btw, this is the difference between mums and dads. Dads would describe a punch as being good, even if it causes severe injury. Mums would say, any punch, unless in self-defence, is never considered good. 😉
