If I am not wrong, all students of NUSH need to live in campus (boarding). Is it starting from year 1 or other year? Thanks
So far only compulsory for Year 5 -

No, not compulsory. My boys didn't, in fact, they said \"over their dead bodies\" :rotflmao:Hi, I need advice from.parents about 3rd language. My girl just got psle results. From what I know, majority don't and for those who did take up 3rd lang, most dropped by Year 3.
There are just too many Enrichment/Elective modules for you to choose to take up.
Correct me if I am wrong.

Thanks dagong99, so it just an enrichment !? In that case I think to manage well in English and Chinese is good enough , right?

My 2 cents hor. I think 3rd lang is optional. If given the choice to choose, can try try la. Skali got talent. If never tried won't know.
Anyway, I asked my dd to drop 3rd lang after 1 semester. Obviously no talent

No, 3rd Lang is not an Enrichment or Elective module in NUSH.
By Enrichment/Elective, I meant \"extra\" modules beside the core modules that one has to take in NUSH.
All these Enrichment/Elective modules are optional but most students will take at least 1 or 2 per semester, on top of their core modules.
NUSH works a bit different from other schools, it is based on modular system, just like NUS.
Hope this clarifies.

The 3rd language option given by MOE is optional, free and conducted at MOELC centres. NUSH and MOELC will adjust timetables so that there is no clash . However the child has to travel to MOELC twice a week.
NUSH offers 3rd language as an elective to all of its students. There is an additional fee of $100 pm. The advantage is no time and effort wasted for travelling and if the child does well it will be included in the result(if not it will not be, so no loss).
As dagong has shared most leave 3rd language after an year or two. But a few do stick on all four years - say about 20+ It is really a matter of interest.
Learning a new language is not just a subject to take but it is about widening perspectives. It may also come in useful in overseas Uni or at work. If you child is interested , he can try the MOELC one first - since it is free and Year1 Sem1 being honeymoon period, they have time . If he likes it then later years he can continue there or take up the school offered 3rd language.
German is the corporate language so some prefer it others like French. if the child is into Manga and stuff then Jap is an attraction. More kids taking Jap stick on and really enjoy the journey. NUSH also has Jap students exchange programme and the interactions help keep the love of language. -

Didn't know 3rd lang is considered as an Elective in NUSH, I always tot it's like MT under MOE.
Thanks Sun_2010 for pointing out.
