2015 Request for Advice on Selecting Secondary Schools
-
yes…i have one questions… HCL additional marks… if PSLE is less than 250… say got 238… can i use the additional 2 marks… to become 240 to go to a SAP school… example : CCHM COP is 238.
Can i use 240 to go CCHM? -
Yes. Irregardless of above 250 or below… As long as its sap schools
-
thanks all… most prob will go to a SAP then… make use of the 2 points… haaa

Can you suggest good schools in East for a score of 231? Appreciate any replies as I did not do my schooling in SG and new to SG education system.
-
It’s going to be difficult to predict COP this year cos the results are starting to look pretty different from last year.
With 231 I guess some of the better options in the East would be Tanjong Katong Sec, Temasek Sec and Ngee Ann Sec
Next tier would be schools like Dunman Sec. -
Hi, my dd get 231, we are in north east, any suggestions? My dd very disappointed with the result, always crying.
Thks. -
Hi all,
My son got 237, I’m wondering if it’s a risk to apply for Anglican High, which has a lower cut off point of 239 for last year?
Or should I put Ngee Ann as first choice, with lower cut off point of 236.
Any thoughts, inputs or advice is appreciated.
Thanks ^^ -

You may want to refer to this list which shows 2014 cut-off pts of secondary school arranged in order. Average t-score seem to be higher this year so do take note that cop may be raised.Hi, my dd get 231, we are in north east, any suggestions? My dd very disappointed with the result, always crying.

Thanks @MyPillow
Even though Anglican High is 2 points higher than what he scored, it’s ok to try? -

In case Anglican High COP this year is higher , the second choice ie Ngee Ann will be considered.
Choose the third option wisely too. The COPs vary from year to year so we cant be sure of what the COPs for this year will be. -
i also think it helps in the appeal process too if the preferred school is in the 1st choice.
-
I have the same issue too… PSLE score 244. Boy wanted so much to get into cat high. But the COP for cat high last year was 245. Should we try?
Or I should pick a safer school as first choice? -

Allocation of sec sch is by merit so it won't affect the chances of your ds' 2nd to 6th choices if you choose CHS as first choice.I have the same issue too.. PSLE score 244. Boy wanted so much to get into cat high. But the COP for cat high last year was 245. Should we try?

As Ender mentioned, most schs will allow 'appeal' only if you put the sch as your first choice. -
Other considerations will be:
- if want better chance for HCL, choose SAP sch
- proximity to home: far but convenient, near but inconvenient (no direct public transport)
- affiliation to any JC
- co-ed or single gender
- mission school -
Does an ungraded higher mother tongue affects the chances to get into RVHS?

I don't think so as long as the pupil meets the minimum COP requirement. However, it may be a bit of a struggle for the pupil as RVHS is both SAP & IP so he is expected to do HCL. -

Someone mentioned last year EESIS ard 257 and this year 262

Choose the third option wisely too. The COPs vary from year to year so we cant be sure of what the COPs for this year will be.
For example, heard from a friend that St Nic has a handful of girls who scored above 270 whereas last year it usually has a cluster around 260.
From the anecdotal evidence, it looks likely that the bar to many dream schools will be raised significantly. -
Thanks for the input everyone.
Another question:
Anglican High is a SAP school, meaning they only do HCL right?
My son didnt take higher CL in primary school, in fact, CL2 is his weaker subject.
This is my tentative order for the 6 options: (Score: 237)
1. Anglican High 239-271 ===> Christian school, HCL, but CL2 is his weaker subject.
2. Ngee Ann 236- 256 ===> within his reach, direct bus from our home, autonomous
3. Dunman Sec 231-254==> autonomous
4. Temasek Sec 232 -246 ==> autonomous
5. St. Hilda’s 230-240===> Christian school, SAJC affiliation
6. HaiSing 225-242==> nearest to our house, CJC affiliation
Still in a dilemma, if we can try applying for Anglican High, with his mediocre Chinese. Or, whether we should just put Ngee Ann as 1st choice right away.
