It seems a norm for most primary schools. Think MBS will be even more stressful, at least this is what I feel when my child was offered a vacancy there. Anyway, I did not take it up for personal reason but where she is now, I am no better. Sigh.. pity for most parents now, having to juggle between work and work ( school work, i mean) 😢

I have a copy of the booklist and my child is in p1 now. What do u need to know?

If it is of any comfort, I am shocked to know how slow MBS is, in terms of EL. The pace is really horrifying compared to neighbourhood school. Til date, no mini class test to gauge how much they have learnt. I would say it is super relax and in a way, I am glad bcos it allows my child some time to settle down.

You really don’t have to worry abt cloze passages, comprehension or even creative writing for now. All these will happen later. If you take a look at the MBS test papers online, the comprehension is also v v straightforward.

I would say the only challenging about EL is oral. Doing picture description of a storybook can be easy but prediction may not come easy for kids who are not being read to frequently.

Length is not tested (in SA1) for MA and I feel fair enough bcos addition within 20 requires lots of drilling.

As for CL, I am all for sending to enrichment ctrs like Berries in preschool yrs. Berries has prepared my child well. Do give your child as many opportunities to recite something in CL if possible. This will come in handy too.

I don't remember them doing composition in pri 1, maybe write a few sentences. I think still managable. However, you have to build up your kid han yi ping ying foundation as mbs is a sap school and they are studying higher chinese text book since p1. If your kid is already attending hypy enrichment class, then I think it should be fine...

hi, can u let me have the name of textbook MBS is using for English, Chinese and Maths? I'll like to take a look at what they are teaching...sorry to trouble u ah...i tried looking at the school website..for english MBS using Houghton Mifflin Anthologies but what's the title??

Thks for letting me know abt MBS pace for English, at least i can \"relax\" abit....but still it will really help if i cld look at their papers, how to retrieve those papers online?

Oral wise i think my gal shld be ok, she is a rather talkative gal and she's very conversant in English...BUT her mandrain sucks...Seems like MBS focus more on Chinese...She has been attending Berries since Oct last year (N2), I regretted for not sending her earlier and placing too much emphasis in English..esp now knowing that MBS focus more on Chinese.......I hope she'll be able to catchup with the help of Berries...

                      Admummy,

There are no text books for EL. MA is My Pals are Here, publisher is Marshall C. HCL is the usual one (i think only 1), publisher is Panpac. As for the HM books, they are pictures books which the school uses. Kind of easy for P1 std so nothing to worry about. The HM w/s covers phonics and common sight words. This is apart from the usual Stellar big books which are done in class.

I wouldn’t say that MBS focuses more on CL. Just that the focus is different from other schools. All these are done, imo, to build the child’s lang foundation and confidence lvl.

Expose and engage your child to more CL activities. All of my child’s enrichment (non-acad n acad) are in CL, except for e.nopi. She loves the lang as much as EL.

Actually, I observed that the supposed \"top schools\" are becoming more laxed with homework while the neighbourhood schools are loading the kids with lots of homework.

My dd at P3 still has manageable homework  to my surprise. She is loaded more with enrichment lessons work,etc....
