Hmmm...not so sure about this article. Seemed quite naive to me...

Of course all families celebrate their own top scorerers' successes. Certainly success is to be celebrated. And certainly there is no lack of celebration. Now the question is...is it necessary to celebrate by splashing top scores in PSLE all over the news or the media?

IMHO, being a top student in PSLE is not quite the same as being a city with great investment potential or winning a medal at the SEA games.

I like the way the media highlights the real heroes in PSLE...those who overcame the odds to do well. It's wonderful to recognise these people. Because let's be very clear here ...most PSLE top scorerers are from privileged backgrounds.. By privileged I mean often they come from families where at least one (often both) parents are highly educated and doing well in their own careers or there is a homemaker (often highly educated) to oversee everything at home. Case in point, a friend came to me and remarked with wonder on a 28X score of a child whose parents are both doctors. That result was no surprise. Should it be celebrated ...yes of course! Should it be in the media...well...I'm not so sure really.

And it's not necessarily true that topscorerers are not profiled in the media. I like this story:

I read the article in the Straits Time and agreed that usually those privileged students who can go TLL for tuition will do better compared to those who didn't. On the other hand, low-income families are seeking tuition for their children to have tuition at CDAC, Mendaki, Sinda etc.

Singapore is well-known for being a top educational landscape to groom children.

The Secondary One (S1) posting results will be released on Tuesday, 22 December 2015 at 9:00am.


The posting results can be accessed through any of the following channels:

Short Messaging System (SMS) text messaging, if parents have provided a local mobile phone number during the submission of their child’s school choices;

S1 Internet System at http://www.moe.gov.sg/education/admissions/sec ... -posting/; or

Going to the student’s primary school.

Students are to report to the secondary schools that they have been posted to on Wednesday, 23 December 2015 at 8:30am.

For enquiries, parents can call the MOE Customer Service Centre at 6872 2220 during office hours.

JTS, it would be good if you could get your child to write an appeal letter now to standby in the event if your child cannot get into the desired school of choice and your child wants to appeal. Include in the child’s strengths, not only in academic but in other aspects such as self-confidence, leadership qualities, attended any competitions etc and be very clear about writing an appeal letter to state why you want to study in that school and what the child or the parents can offer. I heard that if parents are active parent volunteers in the child’s primary schools, it could boost the chances of the child going to a desired secondary schools as the parents will most likely to contribute their service of being active parent volunteers to the secondary school. Lastly, include in a nice colour passport size photo of the child too and the past result slips.


Don’t think about going to MP to appeal for your child’s secondary school because you will be disappointed by the outcome. Good luck.

this is the last nail biting part for psle...really the whole year of preparation & waiting for psle results and school posting.
still remembered how hubby and i checked our mobile phones for that sms, which came in exactly at 6am. it was really a big relief.

But if ur kid get satisfactory score, don't need to worry so much p
