zookeeper:
My son's score is 246. He didn't get in. But he did put VS 1st and 2nd choice, was shortlisted for DSA but not selected during the DSA exercise. Any idea what his appeal chances are and if I should submit the appeal based on academic or CCA?
Sorry to hear about the rejection.
Many schools have come out with this notice that appeal will not be entertained if the t-score is lower than the COP of the school this year. May be a new directive from MOE.
Not sure about VS but you can try.
Since your DS score is below COP, appeal based on CCA should be more appropriate, imho.
Wish your ds luck! -
Sieg:
Thanks, appealed based on CCA. I really wonder why this year's COP increased so much across the top tier schools. It seems the middle tier school didn't move that much, AHS was 239 last year and this year is 240.

What’s the class size for o level?
-
Class size is about 38-40.
At upper sec, it is based on subject combination. The more popular combination (eg 3 Sciences) typically has about 40 students at upper sec. All students start off with 8 subjects at Upper Sec. There is no Combined Science. Students will all do Pure Science subjects ie Chemistry, Physics, Biology. -
Lionhesrted:
In fact, the number of pupils who got into triple sci {8 subjects combination with one humanities (combined) only} is 50% of the sec 2 cohort this year.Class size is about 38-40.

This is tabulated based on the finalised subject combinations offered as shown in the school portal. That is around 75/150 pupils, and should take up 2 O-level track classes for 3 sciences combination. -

:yikes: That's a lot of triple science pupils in terms of % right?

About 20+ pupils from OL were offered IP this year but only 10+ took up the offer.
Does anyone know what is the estimated % of VS O level track pupils who are eligible for vjc this year? Or the number who has chosen vjc this year? -
For triple Science students, they have to be strong in Maths and Sciences. The school looks at their overall percentage for all subjects, Maths and Sciences. Only those who can cope will be offered. There are also those who applied for triple science and were not successful.
Not sure how many O level students into VJC. However, my DS heard that there are many of them in VJC. There are those who do well, qualify for VJC, but may choose to go other JCs due to proximity of the JC to where they stay. In JC, lessons and CCAs end very late. Hence, some students will choose JCs near their home to cut down on travelling time and get more rest. -
Thanks Lionhesrted & Rainbowie for sharing!
Can share more about when and how they can qualify for the transfer to ip?
Also, when is the mid year exams for o level track? -
The Term 1 and 3 tests are typically in Week 8 of these two terms. The results will be out by end of the term.
For mid year, language papers are usually in end Apr while other subjects take place from first week of May.
Year end exams typically start in late Sep/early October.
At the January Parent-Teacher Meeting, the school will share key dates with parents. The Letter to Parents (beginning and end of every term) will also state key dates and activities for every term. Watch out for these key info.
For transfer to IP, it is usually done at end of Sec 2. The school can transfer about 1 class from O level to IP, subject to eligibility. However, students have to be good (overall percentage 70%). Again, the school will share the criteria at Jan PTM with Sec 1 and 2 parents. -
Lionhesrted:
If I am not mistaken, for this year, the criteria for eligibility to IP is overall >70% plus >70% for each of these 4 subjects: Eng, Math, Science (combined results of bio, chemistry & physics) and 1 best Humanities at the end of sec 2.

Pupils need not apply for the IP but the school will offer everyone who is eligible. Once a pupil accepts the offer, the IP HOD will check with his form teacher and CCA teacher on his social and non-academic performance. Usually there's no issue. He will then join IP Yr3.
I know of pupils who did not take HMT but was offered IP too.
I understand that even if a pupil obtained excellent overall results at end of sec 2 but fail to meet just one of the criteria, he will not be offered IP and no appeal will be entertained.
