Victoria School

Lionhesrted:
If I am not mistaken, for this year, the criteria for eligibility to IP is overall >70% plus >70% for each of these 4 subjects: Eng, Math, Science (combined results of bio, chemistry & physics) and 1 best Humanities at the end of sec 2.
For transfer to IP, it is usually done at end of Sec 2. The school can transfer about 1 class from O level to IP, subject to eligibility. However, students have to be good (overall percentage 70%). Again, the school will share the criteria at Jan PTM with Sec 1 and 2 parents.
Pupils need not apply for the IP but the school will offer everyone who is eligible. Once a pupil accepts the offer, the IP HOD will check with his form teacher and CCA teacher on his social and non-academic performance. Usually there's no issue. He will then join IP Yr3.
I know of pupils who did not take HMT but was offered IP too.
I understand that even if a pupil obtained excellent overall results at end of sec 2 but fail to meet just one of the criteria, he will not be offered IP and no appeal will be entertained. -
Hi Lionhesrted or anyone with boys already in upper sec, do you know when the class list for sec 3/ yr 3 will be out? DS is curious if he would be allocated to the same class as his cliques.

My boy will be joining Victoria School in 2016. Any advise on the regular CCA and Special Malay Program timing in Victoria School?

Hi mommylove27,
Welcome on board. Unfortunately the school has taken down the CCA schedule for 2015 from its website. You can view the end-of-year CCA schedule to get a rough idea of the intensity of each CCA. http://vs.moe.edu.sg/temp15/2015%20CCA%20Holiday%20Training%20Schedule.pdf -
At Sec 1 registration, the VP has briefly shared most CCAs have 2-3 times per week, typically Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.
Annually, the school will update the CCA schedule when the new year starts.
For Sec/Year 1 parents, more details will be shared at the January PTM.
The students will have a CCA Showcase in Jan to coincide with PTM. Thereafter, parents and students will make their choices.
Generally, my experience with the school has been very positive. The information is given in a timely manner. There is no need to approach the school or Teachers. But check with your sons regularly. Sometimes, I find my boy did not share information with me, unless I ask. My Son and his friends donβt communicate so much with parents. Believe it is a common teenager characteristic. Hence, I have regular chat sessions with him during weekdays to find out more about his friends, school activities, homework, how he is coping and key info from school.
The school has made big strides in recent years, including implementing the Integrated Programme, enhancing support for CCA, campus refurbishment and maintenance (eg more study corners, upgrading of canteen), outreach to parents, talent development. All these are done while maintaining focus on character and leadership, CCA, academic, holistic development. -

As lionhersted mentioned, there will be a CCA fare conducted for both pupils and parents to find out more about the CCA before they sign up. There will also be trials for CCA sports whereby all pupils will have a chance to try during the orientation period, arranged according to classes. Some will be talent-spotted and invited to join the CCA.
For UG (uniform group), Scouts & Boy's Brigade schedules are on every Sat.
Not sure about MSP though but it will be conducted in the school's premises. For some schools, pupils need to travel to a language centre. -

Hi, I'm new here, my DS has successfully appealed to VS.
:congrats: and welcome aboard!
I heard that this year, appeal will only be considered if pupils meet the COP of the school. May I know if this is true?
