Omg, why choose this name? Most of the people alr started to laugh and make fun with the name . Is it possible to rename the sch again by giving a few names for these three sch students to vote? I feel that we should trust and respecting them to choose the name for themselves.

Unless there is a very strong petition against the naming, else MOE is firm.

Agree. MOE is quite 'aloof' in the sense.
The name looks and sounds 'girly' like a new brand of perfume. Should appeal to the 2 girls' schools? But seriously, you know yah this is SG50, why choose a Greek name that is so inappropriate though the meaning is good?

I wonder if the schools sample-tested the name before deciding on it. They might have foreseen all the jokes about it and given it a second thought. What other names were in contention I wonder.

Actually after someone explained the meaning of Eunoia earlier, I find the name quite meaningful and sounds quite cool.

Haha, actually I also wouldn't mind this name if it were my JC. It is funny and cool, a good start of a conversation if I were to introduce myself to new friends. Just laugh along and offer a few more jokes which they might not have thought of. :imcool:

If the pioneer batch of students do not like the name Eunonia, the students should petition to Moe to change the name, but to come forward to counter propose a few better names that they have in mind, then let everybody vote. Majority of vote win

Since they are going to be A level graduates from this JC and applying for university entry using this new name, the pioneering students have the right to stand up, and propose alternative name, if they really feel very strong about it. They not only rectify name for their own batch, But also for several future generation (after them), to come. Begin with the right Naming step, is the first crucial step.

Imagine : if A level students apply for overseas scholarship into overseas uni, overseas university Chancellor never hear of this weird name before, they question : what on earth, is this Junior College ? ...

We Singaporeans don't understand Greek, Secondary schools also do not offer third language Greek.
Secondary schools offer only French, German, Jap, etc. Greek is not amongst them.
Hence, many Parents, students here do not understand, nor appreciate Greek.
In our Sg context : a simpler English name, is more apt and appropriate, for our Sg institution of higher learning.

The name sounds girly, do not see how Catholic High boys are involved
Besides, if u break up the 3 sound syllabus, the last 2 sound syllabus ... Sound like nonya food, or nonya ladies.
Whether food related or nonya Persnakan girls involved (perhaps more apt for SCGS girls), the name of this JC sounds ... Feminine

When you say aloud this name Eunonia : do you feel associated or related to St Nick or Catholic High strong missionary heritage background ?
            Zero !

Ya lor, why not just give it a simple name that makes the kids sound smart too. Like Raffles or Hwa Chong, so easy to pronounce, also very 威风 you know

Seriously, why choose a Greek name for a government institution?? We were still joking about some posh French names for the JC months ago. The leaders might have taken a leaf from those suggestions. :faint:
