Hi, I received this from level master on 27 Nov.

This is for P2 next year.

      --------------------------------------------
      Dear Parents,

As the school year comes to an end, I would like to thank you for partnering the school to help your child/children in his/their academic pursuits and character development.
There are a few matters which I would like to highlight to you.

      1. Travel Declaration via MCOnline
Kindly be reminded to make your travel declaration via MCOnline by 27th November. A nil return is required. If you have already done so via the hard copy, then there is no necessity to declare via MCOnline.

      2. iRead Programme
During the year-end school holidays, as part of our drive to get pupils to read, pupils are expected to read 5 English and 5 Chinese books. They are to write their reflections on each book they have read in the READ forms which can be found in the iREAD booklets. There is a form to be done in English for all the English books read and another in Chinese.

      3. First Day of School for 2016
The first day of school for 2016 is Monday, 4 January 2016. The reporting time for the PM session remains at 12.25 pm. The dismissal time for that day will be 6.20 pm.
Your child will report to the Old Sports Hall on the first day.
Attached are the items for your child to bring on the first day of school.

      Day 1, 4th January 2016
      - STELLAR Handwriting Book

      - FTGP Book

      - Blue Notebook (labelled Mental Sums)

      - Jotter Book (labelled SBA Writing)

      - Mathematics Activity Book

      - Report Book

Subsequently, teachers will inform pupils on a daily basis on the items to bring to school.
Pupils will need to bring their stationery and their Pupil Diary to note down instructions given by their teachers.

      4. December Holiday Programmes
During the December break, I am sure both you and your child will be spending some quality time together. Attached below are links to available holiday programmes that may interest you.

Dear Parents, allow me to briefly introduce myself. My elder child is in P4 next year and once a while, I read this discussion here to keep myself up to date.

P1 to P3 were pretty much \"honeymoon\" years for my child and the only extra classes he attended were swimming and piano. However, my DH and I think we probably need to send him to enrichment or tuition classes next year, especially for English (creative writing).

As many parents here commented, I also find the school is indeed lacking behind in teaching creative writing, both English and Chinese. I compare with what my niece's school taught and the materials that they are given, the amount of writing they did in school, it is time I should expose my child to higher level of writing skill, in preparation for PSLE. I am not sure if it is only me, I feel the SA marking is very strict even though the school did not really teach. School expects students to write like those 'model compositions' that were shared is highly impossible without external help from enrichment schools. 😞

Do you have any recommendation of tuition centers near PCPS, preferably within walking distance from school? I think it will be more convenient for him to walk there after school. Alternatively, do you know of any private home tuition (those small group home tuitions) near the school?

We have recently moved to Toa Payoh so I am still not too familiar with this area yet.

            Thank you.

Potter, you can purchase soft copies online. http://www.testpaper.biz
I think all subjects are available except science. Hope this helps.
Anyway, not to worry as teachers will provide last year papers for students to do revision prior to exams.

                    Gender Discrimination in School

First week of school is always filled with excitement as students look forward to take up the various new roles in school. New P4 student ambassadors/ prefects are appointed.

In one class, 5 out of 6 appointed are girls. In another, 4 out of 5 are girls.
My question is, why the discrimination against boys or favoritism over girls? Even in team leaders role, majority chosen are girls! Why?? In a co-ed school, shouldn’t both gender be given an equal opportunity? If there are 6 prefects in a class, there should be 3 boys and 3 girls? No?

Is the school trying to imply that boys are not good enough? I know my son is mischievous and too lazy so he will never qualify, how about the other boys in his class or other classes? I do not believe all are bad or naughty! I really wonder how the selection was made and I definitely do not think this is the direction of MOE to give preferential treatment to the opposite gender.

When son commented all teachers prefer girls to boys, my answer is because girls are more well-behaved and produce quality work. However, he giggled and replied “Mum, you should watch how those girls screamed, yelled and quarreled with their friends during recess, you will know if they are really well-behaved. It is only that boys do not act ‘good boy’ in front of the teachers...” Ok, that sounds like our little ‘mei mei’, I told him.

I am not an unreasonable parent. I only hope the school treat all students equally, be fair, regardless of gender. Give the boys an equal opportunity to take up leadership roles. At a tender age, I am sure boys too, can be groomed and nurtured to be good leaders of tomorrow. In our parliament, isn’t approximately 75% of the seats taken up by man?!

Anyway, I will monitor and make sure MOE intervene if discrimination continue to persist in this school! This is totally uncalled for.

Hello bggb, my elder one was with PCPS for the past 3 years, P1 to P3. In his P1 and P2 years, he did get opportunities to be monitor and hall monitor.

                      Monitors - 1 boy, 1 girl
                      Hall Monitors - 1 boy, 1 girl
                      Group Leaders - usually girls
Prefects - from observation, mostly girls
(In Oct last year, P3 students were selected to go for interviews. In my DS’s class, indeed mostly are girls. I think only 2 boys were chosen. My son was also not selected for interview.)

This is just my view. I think at primary school level, girls generally are more well behaved and to a certain extend, I feel girls are also more matured, have higher EQ and knows how to behave at "appropriate time". I have 2 girls so I know. Therefore, in a co-Ed school, girls have an advantage over boys in leadership role. However, that does not mean that our boys are not good. True enough, I think the school should also give equal opportunity to the boys. 50%-50% is the best.
