      Hi sembgal

I dont think 3G is for those kids who are weak in chinese. My gal has been assigned to 3G and thats her strongest subject and she's also active in CCA. May be a mixed ability class too.
Hi, the 4 mixed ability classes starting from Pri 3 to Pri 6 are perseverance , gratitude, zeal and integrity.
P1 and P2 girls are randomly arranged into the 8 respective classes and not according to their abilities.

Chinese classes will be redistributed according to the girls Chinese ability. Since the girls were in P1, they have been grouped accordingly to their Chinese classes when they have to take Chinese lessons. I recalled P2 there is a Chinese class for pupils very strong in Chinese and a Chinese class for pupils who are weak. The rest of Chinese classes are mixed ability. During Chinese lessons, some girls have to go different classrooms. Next year may have to see how the Chinese teachers group the girls for their Chinese classes again.

Dear Parents and Alumnae of Marymount,

My daughter is starting P1 in 2016. I have some questions which I hope you can help answer:-

        (1) On the first day of school, is she supposed to wear her PE uniform? Or her pinafore?

        (2) Does she need to bring all of the compulsory books, workbooks, other materials, etc. on the first day of school? Or only selected ones? How do we know which books she needs to bring.

        Thank you.

Help! Are we allowed into school canteen on the fist day? Also, my girl is supposed to take the 430pm bus home from ASC, wonder if the ASC will bring her to the bus initially? I heard from bus auntie that first day, the bus drivers will collect the girls from assembly point and lead them to the bus… And they may not have 430pm service the first week. Bus auntie wants me to advise them ASAP. So I am not sure what I should do now… Skip ASC that first week? Or pick her myself that week… And when ASC opens in Jan (think they are closed this week until school starts), confirms that they would send the girls to the 430pm bus?..

P1 and P2 girls will wear PE attire throughout their 2 years. I wasted money buying the pinafore which my girl never even wore 1 time in the 2 years. As for books first day just bring as per the time table if you have it. If not just bring pencil case, lunch box, colour pencils Personal organiser. There will not be any lessons on the first day.

Have parents bought their school shoes? Any good recommendation?

Btw, what do we need to pack their school bag with on the first day of school?
We bought dd the black shoes (mary jane type) from Bata. Pretty durable and looked really sweet in her green pinafore. When she grew older, she wanted those with the elastic velco type.

We have just received our letter for Orientation and assignment of class and house. May I know what's the difference and purpose of the house? TIA!

Class name (like Humility, Compassion, etc) is the physical class your dd will be in for the whole of next year. House is for sports events. This year's sports champion was Amethyst. The girls have always done well. My girl was from Topaz and she topped high jump for her house this March, winning over Amethyst. I guess whatever house your dd goes into, just enjoy the fun, team spirit and cheer for her house! :rahrah:

Inside the file given out during Orientation, there is a list of items our girls need to bring. I believe the Teachers may keep some of these books in school...

                      Hi,

I believe the school teacher will give out the Modular Curriculum timetable to inform parents about the activities taking place. There are about on average 2 weeks without Modular Curriculum per term. Based on the modular curriculum yearly timetable, it should give you a good guide on certain selective Wednesdays that your girl is not required to be in PE attire. As such, the child can wear pinafore to school on some Wednesdays. Moreover, your child can check with the school teachers directly about wearing pinafore for certain special occasion such as Racial Harmony Day, Teachers' Day, Children's Day.

Primary 3 girls can still choose to wear pinafore and it is not compulsory to buy the blouse and skirt unless your girl has outgrown them. You can refer to the uniform/PE attire price /order list. The info is stated in fine print. http://www.marymountconvent.moe.edu.sg/ ... neform.pdf

Most girls will wear pinafore / blouse & skirt on first day of school. After that, refer to timetable given by class teacher to check the days that your girls have to be in PE attire due to PE or due to outdoor/sports modular curriculum.

Do not worry about the items to bring as the teachers will inform on Day 1 of school about what to bring to submit to the teachers on subsequent days. MCS teachers are very nurturing and understanding.

I am sharing based on past experience:
All items brought to school have to be clearly labelled with your child's name and class. These include shoes, black MCS jacket, school bags, water bottles, lunch boxes (if any), pencil cases, stationery.

For Primary 1, can refer to Orientation file for the list of items to be brought to school.

For Primary 2 to 3, the DAILY items (*) have to be brought to school are:

*1) MCS Helpmate (very important as teachers will require the child to write down the necessary items to bring, messages, homework reminders etc.)
                      *2) Water bottle
                      *3) Pencil case
                      *4) Mathematics Textbook (part A)
*5) Mother Tongue Textbook (part A)
                      6) Science Textbook (for P3 and above) (only need to bring on days that have Science lessons)
                      *7) Colour pencils (for P1 and P2)
*8) English story book (all levels) for silent reading purpose.
                      9) Music Book (only need to bring on days with music lesson) (depending on the music teacher if she wants to keep it in school.)
                      10) CME book (only bring on the day with CME)
                      11) Bible (can leave in the school/bring on Wed, we chose to leave it in school)
                      12) Bible Workbook (can bring on Wed and submit, we chose to leave it in school)
                      13) Dictionary (P3)

Must remember to label all items. Very important!!!
As to what to bring to school on first day of school to give teachers the required items, can pack along the following on first day of school:
                      1) English Thematic Booklets (whole pack) and must write your child's name on all the booklets inside.
                      2) Targeting Maths Workbook Part A only
                      3) Mother Tongue workbook Part A only
                      4) for P2 girls: Penmanship book (Handwriting book that was used in P1 2015)
                      4) for P3 girls onwards : Science workbooks
                      5) Mental Sums book (A6 Blue Notebook)
                      6a) Jotter book (for P1 & P2)
6b) English Spelling book (with the word SPELLING) written on the exercise book.
6c) A5 Medium Square exercise books for Chinese Language

The files for English, Math, Chinese and Science can also be brought to school depending on whether your girl can manage carrying the empty files in a big recycled bag. Otherwise, just wait for teachers' advice on when to bring the files to school.

Lastly, pocket money of $2 is sufficient to get some decent food during recess. Label your child's purse too. We will give in coin denominations of a $1 coin, some loose change of $0.10, $0.20. We also pack emergency money $2 note in her school bag just in case on days forgot to take purse to school. Of course, we will remind her that the emergency fund is for her to buy food on days she forgot to take along her purse.

As for buying things from bookshop, we will get her to ask us for permission to buy the items that she wants and she needs to tell us how much it cost and why she needs them before we allowed her to buy. It is never too early to teach your child about differentiating Needs Vs Wants.

CCA does not commence in the first week of school reopens for P1 to P6. May have to check with the school teachers/ general office when CCA will commence, will CCA commence week 2 or week 3?? Gotta check that out.

Pupils are allowed to use mobile phones to make calls only outside of curriculum time in the canteen, parade ground and foyer. Therefore, the girls are allowed to carry mobile phones to school and the phones have to be set on silent mode. 2.11 http://www.marymountconvent.moe.edu.sg/ ... for-pupils
