When are you going? Definitely need self-drive as that place is very 'ulu'.


The nearest national park is Litchfield National Park, if you like water, can jump in natural pools and enjoy the natural spa pools (waterfalls that massage your body).

Kakadu National Park & Katherine is another worth visiting spot, the water falls are quite spectacular but closed during rainy months (road blocked during our visit in Feb)

keeping fingers crossed. Will be on a 2-wk europe FnE trip in Early May. if the flight situation do not improve and get cancelled , probably look for a 5-7 day trip alternative.

Do not wish to cancel leave , also not sure if can get air tics in such a short timeframe…

Hubby was there for work for 3 weeks and he mentioned 4-5 days u can cover almost whole of Darwin, v relax place, intend to make a trip there in June 11

Darwin is a very nice place.


11 of us, age from 2-66yrs went 2 years ago during PSLE marking days. Super cheap airfare by Tiger then (ard S$123 return with taxes)and best thing is the exchange rate that time was almost 1 : 1.. :love:

We had so much fun, self-drive to Kakadu.. Missed all the places, lodge and resort that we stayed, Urbir rock that we climbed, the roasted chicken in our cars as our lunch, self prepared BBQ dinner etc.. etc..

Half of our tour expenses are free cos my dad won $$$ in casino.. :lol:
The Chinese Restuarant at Casino served nice and cheap food. The cheapest meals we had during our 5days F&E tour in Darwin.

Will be going again in Feb 2011 with my hubby.. This time we would like to cover Litchfield and Katherine.. :rahrah:

Silkair is having a promo to Darwin. Is it very hot in late Dec? Good to visit?

It will be as HOT as Singapore in late December. Use lots of sunblock.


Darwin/NT is a no no for a city-person looking for shopping, fanciful restaurants and interesting cafes. My impression of NT is that it is very earthy and ‘brown’. (Sorry, dunno how to describe). NT is rather different from the rest of the Aussie states.

Somewhere not too far from Darwin city, there’s a beach we went to, where huge barramundis swim up to the shore and we can touch them. Quite an experience with the fishes swimming around as we stand knee deep in the water. There’s a crocodile park in Darwin where one can get up close n personal with the crocs.

Darwin aside, consider driving out to visit Kakadu, Litchfield NP, Katherine…etc. if u hv time, a boat ride in the Katherine Gorge is nice. Lots of walking, hiking, swimming at the waterholes, looking for waterfalls, fishing…etc. Katherine is a good place to see aboriginal art, culture and heritage. Lots of rock art along the trails.

A word of caution to those who plan to self drive - try not to drive after dark, and keep to the speed limit.

Thanks bebebub! Think I’ll consider Darwin next June (winter in Oz) coz I hate the blistering heat… heard it can hit 40C so that’s not a nice feeling…
