      Yay!! *StayPositive*

I realise there is a fairly new KSP member with a similar username. To avoid confusion, remember mine is all small caps. The other person is with capital S and P.

Glad to have found a classmate parent here...hehehe...
      Me too! :rahrah:

Same as my son...non-affiliated, HCL. He's a bit concerned that there are so many from the affiliated pri school... hopefully they can all mix well πŸ™‚

For my son, Chinese is actually his weak subject πŸ˜“ , but he has come to accept that there's no running away from this subject.
Totally agree. After all, they don't have to take CL in A levels if they pass this HCL at O levels.

Let's hope that \"head knowledge\" of this realization will be passed on as a conviction in his heart. Otherwise, it'll be a truly uphill task.
Btw, what is a reasonable amount for DS's daily allowance?
I am thinking around $8 to $10 a day. If I am not mistaken, the canteen food costs around $2 per plate, therefore
      $2 food morning recess
      $2 food lunch
      $2 drinks, misc
$2 food tea break (considering the long school hours)
$2 spare / emergency as my DS will be traveling about 1.10 to 1.5hours cross-country from West to Bartley daily

        Hi @staypositive,

Where in the west are you? We're on the other end, Pasir Ris πŸ˜„

For us, we're giving daily $4 (recess), but I'm encouraging him to just drink water, instead of buying sweet drinks.

And, looks like they'll stay back 3x a week. So, to begin with, we'll give him $25/week, & let him manage that.

If after the full swing of staying back/cca etc, turned out it's not enough, we'll increase it to $30/week. I think that'll be ok already...giving him 2 \"portions\" during recess (provided he dont buy drinks).

We are staying at Bt Batok.

Fortunately my DS staple is plain water and Milo. He doesn’t take other sweet drinks including juice.

in primary school, he brought about $5 to school and spent
          - $1 for breakfast ( as he likes being early and mingle with other classmates who are super early too)
          - $2 during recess. All on food like 2 plates of noodles and chicken drumlets which he loves do much
          - $2 during lunch, just before all the supplementary classes starts.

He’s a big eater… His primary school mates ever commented that he could eat 2 portions in such a short time!
No surprises he is already a few kilos heavier than me and going to overtake my height very very soon ! Hahaha

I guess we play by ear. Your way of giving weekly allowance is a good idea. Will incorporate this when we feel he is ready . Currently $50 a week feels like too big a sum for him to manage but he will mature in due course to handle that

              Hi staypositive

I’m also a "Westerner". Staying at Choa Chu Kang. My boy also need to travel 1.10 to 1.5 hrs to school everyday. If I’m not wrong, there are items like fried rice selling at $1.80 to western food selling at $3 in the school canteen.

                        Hi,

Anybody have more information about the coming Friday Campfire/Welcoming Ceremony? Do the students need to attend? Any parents here had attended in previous years before? Can share with us?
                        Thanks
