My dd spent the entire afternoon doing 习字 yesterday. I told her this is way too unproductive.

Lots of homework given today too. Luckily not all due tomorrow.

Happy new year! Jiayou all mummies & daddies here and of course to our DS / DD taking PSLE this year!


Had been away from 2 weeks trip and just came back on last Sat, really hard to start engine but have to start now!

DS just called and said today teachers starting to give out homework.

can I ask whether it is possible to spot / narrow down MT oral topic? My DS's MT is really bad and I think I need to resort to narrow down MT oral topics for him.

Please don't just spot topics for MT oral or your child will suffer in case the topic that comes out is entirely unfamiliar to him. Teach your child how to express in simpler sentences what he sees and then add value by suggesting to him how else he can improve in describing that scene. Train him for different scenarios. Oral is not going to be \"prepare today tomorrow can excel\" type - if you know that is your child's weakness, you need to work with him and maybe set a consistent time to do that every week. By time it reaches oral time in Aug, he will be very prepared. There is still a lot of time to get that done. Good luck!

She is offered higher chinese language (HMT) but i am not sure if i still need to close the gap between MT and HMT, i think the paper requirement may be different.

Iirc, P6 HCL exam consists of only Compo & OE compre.

Labbit, HCL paper 1 is compo. Paper 2 has sections of choosing phrases, editing and OE compre. OE compre is not the only component in Paper 2, though the 2 OE compre passages make up about 2/3 of the whole paper's marks.

the problem with MT is 习字 helps the child to remember the strokes...it is like 听写 and reduces the time to check e-dictionary when doing compo.
but as a parent, i find it unproductive. you know something, my daughter used to do the 习字 for son...this way, he can do something more productive.

what did she ask your daughter to buy?
on my side here, the 'extra' would be the school's past year exam papers.

Some of the items will be ordered through school Such As Oral Guide, Comprehension Guide, External Papers Etc.
Then some we had to buy outside.. like compo guide, vocab guide
