Almost same. ACSI is 5 point. difference is 2 points. but the IB result difference is huge huge and huge. they have good amount of intake in Y5 (about 200 students). amonst these lots of students scoring 45/44.
it is not correct that we need to wait until 2018. Practically in SJI the curriculum for IP and Express for S1 and S2 is 99% same. Though school taking few hundreds bucks extra for so called IP. the part of IB starts in S3 and S4. then then full in S5.
on the other hand at ACSI they start the Curriculum from S1. Sonthe students are getting prepared from the begining. yesterday i called learning hub for my son (SJI -IP) for S1 english tuition. they replied he can join any express english claas. they also replied me that they only have separate english class for S1 ACSI IP.
my point is not letting the SJI down as lots of things at SJI are good also. but my point is if we know our short comings (mean SJI IB result), why can’t we aquire the good part / practice from others (ACSI) and implement to ur boys. I strongly believe their curriculum require upgradation towards excellence. They are more interested on strict militery style rules and regulations. offcourse boys require to learn dicipline. but not like militery style. their are too many do and dont do. these restricting the student to be more independent. for vey minor things they are going for punishments like 20 push ups. the level head annouced to the boys very strongly that i know how to make you dicipline - one of them is physical punishment. Unbelieble in 21st century?
So the final outcome will remain same even after 10 years until the culture is not changed. -
"The school also look at the character, leadership and skill development of each boy" – this is the school aim and goal; but I am very much concern if the school is working for this. Just see below comments from concerned parents yesterday (8th Jan 2016). Appreciate your Feedback/Suggestion:
Parent 1: Seeking opinions from parents with boys in all-boys schools. First week in Sec 1, before even going thru’ orientation, boy was asked to "drop 20" by comp studies teacher. Just because they were going thru step by step to log into their personal email accounts, & the boy clicked on an email in his inbox "orientation matters". Teacher shouts at boy & punished him to "drop 20". I understand it’s normal punishment in all-boys schools, but was it necessary to do it on the first week in Sec 1? First time meeting the teacher & for such a minor "wrong-doing"? Wouldn’t shouting & reprimanding suffice?
Parent 2: Didn’t want to name the school. But it’s SJI. The other parent messaged me as well. Her son is also going through a tough time in the school. We agree that they are running a military camp.
Parent 3: In fact I am also very much concerned about the school environment. I had been few times in the school and talked & observed few senior students. I also visited other schools such as ACSI, RI, HCI and NJC.
My observation is quite concerning. I feel SJI do something and their system does something with the students - and they finally becoming like a doll/robot. SJI may be wants the boys to be gentlemen. But finally these boys become robot, always keep their head down, unable to stand up properly with chest up!! This is really concerning me once I see the senior boys.
Whereas in other school boys are so open and cheer up and lively - they are growing on their own.
In SJI the school’s military system doesn’t allow the children to raise their own. The kids are always on pressure - don’t do this or only do this! I am very much concerned about it.
Parent 1: True. Whereas in schools like RI, you see very impressive boys who carry themselves very well. Outspoken & shows leadership qualities. Whereas the few student leaders I spoke to on registration day at SJI, they seemed so timid & unsure. One even stuttered when we asked him a question. -

The IB results for ACSI is about 42 average, while SJI was 40 last year then went to 41 this year. As you mentioned, the JC intake is very different. The PSLE intake for ACSI IP is also much better.Almost same. Then again, by the amount of complaints you have, I'm pretty sure your son is in the wrong school. He'd be better off in ACS(I) =P Good luck. -
My son is enjoying himself so far in SJI IP.
His comments so far is that his teachers and seniors are very caring, helpful and nice. Unlike the military style being stated here.
His form teacher even took the effort to spend time with them during recess almost everyday. She also made the effort to remember each and everyone of their names.
The seniors he met, though some are shy, lets say out of 10, he felt 7 are confident and many are helpful.
As for the level head updates, I find that its because he is very committed to his job and that he wants to get the key dates and activities out, thats why the many updates. I also notice the updates has started to dwindle down once all the info are out. The school has also set up emails for the students so that the students themselves can in future check the updates, a part of being independent.
My son is a very outspoken kid, he used to be a student leader in his primary school. He does not feel in anyway restricted by the school rules or made to be timid or to be a robot here. In fact, he is happy in SJI.
I saw the senior SJI boys a few times, they were not like what is described "keeping their heads bow and are doll or robot." They are friendly, approachable, helpful and confident. On registration day, along the way to buy books, some approach us to check whether we need help. We were also greeted by a few teachers and staff. We saw staff/ teacher who helped guide students who lost their way. The environment is friendly.
Its really sad to see just with one week, we as adults, judge so critically a school that is making so much effort to make things right, and passed such critical and unfair judgement on their students.
Maybe because I see a different of system in his primary school, one of the many popular schools. Not much programs running. Teachers that are less committed, no updates of any changes going on, which left us wondering what is going on. And because of the lack of discipline, there are many issues that arise which the school fail to spot. Hence having go through that kind of a system, I am ever so grateful for a school that has so many programs line up, that keep us updated and that have rules that help to keep things running smoothly. -

Very encouraging to hear that your son is having a good time at SJI so far. I'm hoping that my son will get the hang of it after orientation this week. Your son is blessed to have a form teacher who sounds so caring.. As everyone comes from different background and in a new environment, we all take time to adjust. There are seniors in SJI who told my son "Its their best 4 years", other seniors told him that "The campfire is really something to look forward to". Encourage your son, I am sure with time, he will adjust well to school as well. -

Thanks happyhearts. I know that our boys are in good hands. Was very encouraged to receive message from level head this morning updating us on how the boys are doing at the camp. The level of commitment from the head of level is fantastic! How many teachers in Singapore will update you about what is happening after 12midnight and 6.31am in the morning!

Is there any affiliation between SJI O levels and SJI Senior School? Do the boys get to minus 2 points? During my time, there was affiliation to CJC and affiliated schools could get 2 points off.
