Smoked salmon is not "raw". The smoking sort of cooks the outer layer of the fish. And those smoked and packaged in processing plants are probably safe. It’s the handling by some hawkers and restaurant workers that is probably less well-controlled.

OT but relate to food hygiene …why do we have so many birds flying around at hawker centres and even at the school canteen? As if we need birds help clear the leftover food on the table and floor. Start giving me impression that it is really ok to live together with birds. Are these birds protected?

I do not like to eat at BWC hawker stalls @ level 4 as it is an open space and many birds are in the area.

Do we have so many birds around last time or the hawkers I went to are different? Really got a shock initially…the feeling I got was how come Sin is so dirty. Went to food court, stalls mostly handled by our fellow friends from other country. I can just tell myself to manage my expectation and eat out lesser.

I think it's the trees! Leaving food exposed also attracts them, of course. If we live in a very concrete urban area without greenery, there will be fewer birds. But it will also be hotter and dustier, so it's a choice that has to be made.

There was this scene I saw yesterday when waiting for my girl at the school canteen. The stall helper clearing the plates on the table and a bird picking up the food from the floor. can't help to think that they are working hand in hand

If only we can train other adults to do the same!
