I ask the same question too. Reply was there is still an exam to clear at year 4. That cert can be use for admission to other poly or jc. Correct me if wrong.

scratching my head…I seem to recall principal saying that now that you mentioned it.

I believe other IP schools also do the same thing (ie year 4 exam and cert) but why is it they still open O level class but not RVHS?

I had the impression RVHS is confident their students do not need O level as 100% clearance to Uni at A levels because principal keeps saying they are the top 10% of the nation and seems to imply they won’t fail the A levels so therefore O cert is not necessary.

As parents would you not want an O level cert just in case (go overseas for college)? Because of this, I am contemplating about whether RVHS or DHS

As per my understanding, RVHS will hv an exam in year 4 in which students will hv an IP cert. RVHS & DHS are both IP schools so they are not doing O levels, or do u mean that DHS offer O level class and RVHS does not? The reason for the IP sch to offer O level class is due to they identify the students as more suitable for structure program (O level) or cannot cope with IP, so these students will study the O level curriculum and take O level. RVHS do not hv O level class, maybe the principal is trying to say the students all can go thru IP and do A level. As parents, i will prefer RVHS to hv O level class as a safety net so in case the student is unable to cope with IP in year 2 they can transfer to O level class and not being asked to transfer out of sch to other O level sec sch. Or the principal is so confident that all the student can cope IP? Even HCI also hv a class for O level for those students who cannot cope. Does DHS has any O level class?

RV students take GCE O level HCL exam at Year 4. That is probably the only O level exam the students take, unless they take 3rd lang.

RV has NO O level classes.

what happens to those RVHS students who cannot cope with the IP syllabus? Are they identified early and be asked to leave school? The rest of the IP schools have the safety net to keep these students but RVHS does not (and which Principal proudly declare so during the open house). I am not so sure how assuring this is to parents contemplating to send their kids to RVHS?

So what happens to those who fail or didn't meet the promo requirements at Y4?

Do they have to leave the school or are they retained or pushed up automatically?

Not sure leh as these wouldn't be widely announced. Perhaps repeat, conditional promotion or just take 3H2 plus the H1 subjects?

I went to the RVHS open house last Nov. The principal said that although they are an IP school, they do not open up a O level class as a catchment net as it is not necessary.

Does that mean all pupils cleared the A level in a go?
Instead of transferring pupils who never meet their minimum promitional criteria to o lvl class, RV either conditional promo them, retain them or ask them to seek transfer to other sch. That is prob why they dont have o lvl class
