Parents have different views about primary schools. Some prefer proximity to home, while others prefer affiliation.

Son’s friend (same kindergarten) went to Catholic High as his father was from that school. They stay in Upp Bukit Timah and the boy takes a school bus at 6+ every morn.

My son is in Pei Hwa…10 min walk to school. But will register daughter for P1 in CHIJ TP (my former school). Hubby’s rationale is there is affiliated sec school. Daughter has a ‘back-up sec school’ but if she does well for her PSLE, can choose another secondary school.

and to add to it : someone's immediate family is a big contributor financially to the school, sits on the board.....still send the kid to another school - got back up for sec school (a good sec school) ..... lolz

        each has their own rationale

          Yup, there are many reasons.

Parents move house to stay within 1km to put son in all boys’ school…then they move to another place to put daughter in all girls’ school. Asked the mum why she didn’t put daughter back in her former school (SCGS) and she told me she prefers MGS as it is a Christian school.

            Hi all,

            Need ya advise…

I just bought a unit which is < 1km to Pei Hwa
Does it guarantee a place for my boy??
Do I need to do P.V? If so, how do I go about?
(There is no application form in the sch web)
My boy is born in 2005, is it too late?
And does it matter that I am a buddhist?

            Thx!

I think it's rather late to apply to be a PV, but you can still write in to the school to enquire. Do check out this link for balloting history.
              http://www.kiasuparents.com/kiasu/content/bukit-timah
For Pei Hwa, there is no balloting for those living less than 1km for 2008/2009 ie to say that all living within 1km are taken in.

It doesn't matter whether you are Christian or Buddhist.

                Hi Janet,

                Thx for the reply!

However I do not understand the chart..
U mean within 1km, sure will take in base on past records?

Any idea, is the school single session?
For PV, can share whether what services they required?

                Thx!

                  Hi Newae,

P1/2 are in afternoon session for now.
For PV, it really depends on the type of help the school requires…could be traffic warden, admin work, or story-telling.

For 2008/2009, balloting wasn’t required for those staying within 1km, ONLY those staying 1-2km (yellow) need to ballot. However, that’s not to say that it stays this way every year. Kids born in 2001 need to ballot (see chart for 2007).

                      Hi newae,

                      You are welcome.
I hope your son successfully gets into Pei Hwa too. As for PV, rules change ever so constantly…do call in and ask how you can apply. Either write in/email or apply manually on form in the school.

My family are Buddhists too, but kids were in Christian kindergartens. Son refuses to step into temple since K1, while daughter (K2) sings Christian hymms everyday.

My twin girls will be starting P1 in 2014 and I’m trying to figure out when do I need to apply for PV? We are aiming for Pei Hwa mainly because I have a son whom is 2 years younger. I can’t find any info in the school website. Can someone advise me?
