True that this is crucial year.
Since last year. I don't think it's wise to ask daughter if I should change because she is not mature enough to give me an answer.
Scary part is this is her crucial year...where to find one now?
But if the tutor can't impart knowledge to child, is there any point in keeping further? I do ask my kids if this/that class is helping and will not hesitate to cut off anything that is not helping - money spent can be earned back but time lost can't. -
Consider the character of the tutor… will she teach half way then decide to quit… assess her overall performance… get a new one is not hard but get a new good one at affordable rates is not easy…
New patient affordable reliable… not easy to find but not impossible…
I would think find one and try for a month first before u let the current one go… safer… remember no turning back once decision made…
Sometimes my patience also wear thin with my students. I do scold them also. Some consecutively few weeks get scolding. Scolding within reason and dun hit on self esteem is fine. Usually if they piss me off, they get 1 to 2 mins of scolding from me. I wont scold them if they dun understand how to do. Most days no scolding at all. Scolding only happens when I see them daydreaming in class, lazy or unwilling to learn.
It is not easy to do tutoring and a seasoned tutor has many students to teach. If u need the tutor to be 100% patient, not easy. Within reasonable demands yes.
Also, consider if the tutor has helped u achieve ur aim last year… if not… no reason to keep her… -

[quote=\"janet88\"]as most of you know, my daughter is academically weak and such as it is a challenge to tutor her. her science tutor is showing some frustrations with her. this is a crucial year. but if tutor is getting impatient, i am thinking of getting another one. any inputs? thanks.
How long has the science tutor been with her? if it is a new one, maybe try another one. Or check with your daughter whether she wants to change or continue with the current one.

janet, what about talking to the tutor and ask her why is she frustrated with your dd? Is it becos the tutor has some personal problems n venting her anger on your dd or is it becos your dd doesn't understand a certain topic?
Is it so regular now that she is showing her frustrations?
If tutor has been ok so far until now, maybe, you can give her a chance by talking to her?
Just a suggestion.

I casually asked dd1 at early P2 year, for opinion if need to continue with the same tutor and I was actually quite surprised by her answer with some analysis element in there.
If this is home tuition, you may want to sit nearer to them in order to feel the problem. -
I don’t blame the tutor for being frustrated. I know my daughter is also trying. She is slow…we have been revising science on other days. But I can’t be scolding her because she is trying her best. Tutor and I usually discuss after each lesson what she has taught and on my part, I will let tutor know what I revised with daughter.
Thank you for your suggestions. -
So long as our daughters are trying their best, that will be good enough for us.

Hi Janet! Am wondering what you mean by \"she is slow\".I don't blame the tutor for being frustrated. I know my daughter is also trying. She is slow...we have been revising science on other days. I faced the same problem since beginning of last year. DD's SA2 math was borderline pass. She couldn't understand fully what the tutor was teaching and although she passed her paper, her confidence in math dipped even more. I thought it was because DD's very weak in math since lower primary.
We had the tutor since P2 and DD has been getting average grades from P2 to P4. I thought nothing of it until P5. Initially thought DD's drop in math was mainly due to the increased depth in P5. By SA2, I realised that the tutor herself was not comfortable in handling upper primary math. So, it is not just my DD's problem but the tutor's too!
Sigh....Finding a good tutor with good teaching skills is very tough and must also have good rapport with the kid

she has a very short memory...so we would need to revise with her constantly. also, she works better with visual. attention span is like 15 minutes at most and after that you would need to get her attention.

lots of interaction required.
the tutor is also teaching english, math & science to other students at primary level.
yes, finding a tutor who can teach and have rapport is very very hard. -
DS seems to be very free. He has homework everyday and he always reports homework done all by the time I get home from work. May I know what kind of homework your DC are getting , i.e how may pages, questions per subjects? Is DS not getting enough?

it depends on the school.
my daughter has math homework in her activity book, english worksheets from school (editing, grammar mcq, vocab mcq, comprehension OE, composition). for science, so far i've seen fill in the blanks but majority of her hw is english and math.
