My DS is in year 1 of ip track and lately I have observed that he his using his laptop to do quite a bit of work. But his laptop is quite old and very slow so should I buy him a new one for future assignment?

Yes they do have a lot of projects.. Flip side is the new laptop could be use for gaming...... -
Yes, there are a lot of projects, particularly for ip students. For info, the boys can make use of the computer lab in school for projects and homework. Hence, my ds hardly brings his laptop to school even if there’s a project discussion. Good thing is that it’s highly unlikely the boys will dare make use of the computers in school for gaming but if it’s a personal computer, might be a different story…

How are you ? Your boy is in Year-3 this year ?
Yes.. Principal did share the school's O Level performance during the Level-2 Briefing/PTM but she appealed to parents not to post the detailed results (by subject) on Kiasuparents coz she felt its not 'healthy' for the public to compare schools based solely on academic results.
To share briefly, CHS did very well for 2015 O Levels. Approx 20% of our boys scored 9 Distinctions, approx 65% scored 6 Distinctions, and more than 90% scored Distinction in Mathematics.

Hence, my ds hardly brings his laptop to school even if there's a project discussion. Good thing is that it's highly unlikely the boys will dare make use of the computers in school for gaming but if it's a personal computer, might be a different story...
Those with DS in IP, do your DS find that the pace of teaching is very fast?
My DS says the teachers gave them lots of notes to go home to read. And in the next lessons, the boys are supposed to know the topics already. -

My sons never feeback anything about the pace of teaching. But, those times when they bring back test papers with borderline marks, I will know :evil: . However, somehow, they managed to catch up and have been doing fine thus far, so I never question.KidCat:

In general, I think it pays to be able to learn and absorb fast in IP. From what I know, I often see my sons doing online quizzes after certain lessons and some of them would be graded by the teachers
Is your son in yr 1? Everything is so new and hence probably find the pace fast. Once they get used to the system, most will manage, albeit some stress ( mostly from rushing to meet project deadlines

Yes, my DS is in Year 1. He finds the pace fast saying that the teachers just give out notes for the students to read beforehand, & at the next lessons the teachers just briefly mentioned the contents in the notes & proceeded to give out worksheets or online quizzes to be done.
He felt that there was not much class teachings. And before he knew it, one topic is already over.
Did your DS feel that way too?
(Anyway, I told him maybe in Secondary Sch, there is no more spoon-feeding. I also explained that going thro the contents of the notes will waste class time, since the students can read beforehand.)
