joe0599:
My DS is JC1 this year and he applied and got selected for the GATE program, anyone know what is the benefit of it?
Hi joe0599, my ds is now in Hci Sec 3. May I know was he previously from SMTP? Is gate programme something like SMTP? Thanks! -
Song22:
Yes, he is previously from SMTP. I understand that there is also SMTP program in JC, so abit confuse what is the difference. To me, it is more important for him to score well in A level rather than spending more times in studying subjects in deeper depth or doing research which will not be tested in A level. Even it will helps him on his H3 paper but from what I understand H3 paper is not a criteria for university admission.joe0599:

Do you see SMTP to be of beneficial to your ds, since he has completed the programme at year 4? -

I am not very sure what he got out from SMTP but he did quite well for all his Maths/3 sciences. One thing for sure it help alot in his project which I think he obtained quite a good grade for it. It also piqued his interest in biology which he intend to pursue in JC. I guess the program helps in determining his area ofinterest and what he would like to do in the future. -
Thanks joe0599 for sharing

I wonder how many O level students are admitted/selected to this GATE program?
From what I understand, GATE program is for the top 20% of the cohort and since SMTP students are taught in an accelerated and extended syllabus during their sec 3 & 4 which would have covered alot more than those O level students, then how can we expect these O level students to perform well in the test to be selected? Kind of like HCI students have an advantage since it is a continuous of their SMTP from high school.
I wonder how the GATE students perform for their A level. -

For the Parents Day next Friday, is attendance restricted to only 2 invitees?

Handout was posted on the parents’ portal.
Parents were told to bring it along on Fri.
