I guess the quality improves with time. If you look at the stats of COP between 2005 and 2014, you will see that NYJC is the only school that the COP goes down very quickly each year. For the past 3 years, it was 8/8, 7/8 then 7/7 for Sci/Art. Of course the academic performance is very much dependent on the students, so thats why academic performance improve every year (most recent (2014) batch did exceptionally well, with around 2/3 students getting A for maths which is conveniently the standard of top JCs). Culture I would say that it is rather warm but a bit chinese-y (I mean eventually it's nanyang). Teachers are great!!! but it varies by subject as well. NY Chemistry and Maths department teachers are very very driven and others are good as well (although honestly speaking there are exceptions - everywhere - but I think there's very few exceptions here compared to my sec sch (of course i have never been to other jcs)).
(1)Can you please give me more details about the culture of NYJC? Please elaborate the part on chinese-y. It will be a big NO-NO for dd if it is too chinese.
(2) Please advise if you have taken up any private tuition(s) over the 2 years or the teachers' lectures and tutorials are adequate to prepare you well for your A level's?
(3) Which is the most common contrasting subject for science stream?
(4) Is H2 maths a compulsory subject for science stream?
(5) Are there more science, arts or hybrid classes in the current JC2?
(6) Do you know if there is any retainee in JC1 last year? And how many?
(7) What is the percentage of pupils who are qualified for the four government universities?
(8) When you first enrolled into this jc, did the principal reiterated that nyjc was ranked no. 1 among all the jcs for the value-added award?

With regards to Quinine's comment that cop of njc goes down very quickly each year, may I ask what is nyjc parents and pupils' opinion of the discussion in this link, particularly about the credibility of the value-added award which the P claimed that nyjc is ranked no. 1 among all the JCs when the top-tier jcs (including tjc and acjc) did not seem to be participating in it. I am somewhat disturbed by it.

Sorry, I need more feedback from experienced pupils and parents regarding the chinese-y culture please.
Did the P mention that all the JCs are involved? Frankly I am skeptical about this issue. As it is, the chart from 2008 saw that all top-tier JCs were gone for good. Something must have taken place which this NYJC P didn't reveal. I hope someone can give an explanation because this value-added award is NYJC's selling point.

In addition to my last post, I am not so concerned about the value-added award but more on the the integrity of the leader, hence I need to clarify further.
Value-added may be important but as it is, there will be pupils who are retained and failed to get a place in local uni each year in nyjc as well as other jcs. Itβs the pupils who need to work hard to attain good results for themselves.
Morever, an improvement in cop of a jc only means the quality of the intake has improved but not necessarily means that the jcβs teaching methods have improved. -
