hi e3,

can your dd compute elapsed time fairly well?
Sadly speaking, not yet....She plans longer than she writes. Though it's supposed to be that way but my dd is quite perfectionistic as she tends to write as neat as possible for every character.

For the past few days, we had worked on it and she had shown improvement in her speed, though not ideal yet. We still have about 2 weeks plus to work on that. I think should be ok as she does enjoy writing.
btw, are they given a series of pictures or just 1 pic?
For Chinese, it's one pic, for English, 4 pics.
also are they given papers with single lines or those with boxes like the ones used in zuo4 wen2? with the former, perhaps you can get her to write with the flow but leave a line in between, so new/spice-up bits can be easily incorporated?
For English Compo, they will use foolscap paper and write leaving a line in between. For Chinese Compo, they will use A4 sized Chi essay paper with boxes.
out of curiosity, how important is it for the kids to be tidy in their compo writing? will they be penalized for frequent insertions to spice up writing?
According to my understanding, they are not assessed for \"neatness\". Haha. I will assume teachers would be impartial in their assessment and focus on the content, structure and language, and try to \"look beyond\" the untidiness. 😉

        Hi E3,

I didn’t know 作文 and 造句 are under Paper I. It looks even tougher now than before. Frankly speaking, both are in different ‘categories’.
Up till now, I compile all the 造句 and get him to memorize them 1-2 days before his exam. At least he has a rough idea rather than cracking his head to form sentences from scratch. Precious time can then be spent on comprehension open-ended.

That was what I was assuming all the time, paper 1 should just be 作文. So when I received the circular that 造句 would also be assessed under Paper I, I almost freaked out. Haha. No choice, just have to accept and work on her time-management.

            Hi E3,

I checked my son’s exam time-table. 造句 is not included for CL compo.
For Pei Hwa, I realize that every CA and SA format is different. To tell you honestly, I am rather pissed off with son’s CL teacher. She told me
完成对话 will not be included in CA1 and ended up it was. He didn’t do well for that. Up till now, I’ve been spending quite a bit of time on this section as well as 短文填空.

              Hi Janet

Ur boy is P4, right? from P4 onwards, there is no longer any 造句 for Paper 1.
This is what my son has been thru.

Wonder what about ur son's chinese oral format. My son told me that for picture conversation, he is supposed to describe and point out and elaborate on those ppl that did something wrong (litter, spitting etc). However, last yr PSLE oral was only to say for eg: that man is throwing litter. for more elaboration, that will be during the conversation with the teahcer, eg: she asked which person in the pic gives u the most impression. then he can say: that man is inconsiderate, dirty the place, should throw in the dustbin etc...

So how ah?? either i call the teacher or ask my friend's son from another class. really confused and worried. 🙏

Hi Tweet, my P2 dd's picture conversation was already describing and elaborating the \"wrong\" behaviour, teacher told them to use their own opinions, not just say what they see, not only the \"wrong\" behaviour but EVERY behaviour. Teacher said should add on, \"我想...\" after they state what the people are doing. Her P1 teacher last year encouraged them to do that too. They do not have a separate conversation with the teacher (I believe that's for upper primary). In fact, if there's prompting by the teacher on the pic conv, it means you are not elaborating enough on the picture so that's not really good news.

For pic conversation, I told her to first identify the place, then describe everything about the setting as best as she can in detail. After that, speak in a circular motion everything she see from top-left hand round to centre. Give as much personal opinions as possible. Summarise (in her case, memorise) with concluding sentences using 注意安全, 遵守规矩, 干净卫生, etc., then give a \"happy\" or \"desirable\" result. Just sharing. 😉

                  Hi E3

thanks! yes, upper primary chinese oral has 2 parts: picture and conversation.i understand that last yr for picture oral, it was supposed to be like what u had mentioned. for conversation, the question asked will be like eg: if it is a pic of a park, teacher will ask whether u have been to a park, and from there the child can talk freely(personal experience).

                    Hi Tweet,

My son had 造句 for CA1...in fact he had 5 in Paper II. Up till now, his
造句 had never appeared in Paper I (Compo).

We mummies are getting kancheong because Oral will be held next week, followed by Compo. :?:

                        E3,

So P1/2 already started…in that case, they will have finish SA1 earlier. My son’s last paper is Science on May 13. Considered very early compared to prev years.
