Maris Stella High School
-
Ds said his teacher told him the class have to pay for a pair of Converse canvas shoes for art exam. The school tied up with Converse and got a deal at $20 a pair. The usual price is $55.
I haven’t got the black and white yet. But I don’t see why must the kids buy a $20 pair of canvas shoes to paint on for art exam when a normal less than $10 pair will do. -

Maybe the purpose is to put in effort in painting sth looking good that the student will want to wear to show off his/her artistic work?Ds said his teacher told him the class have to pay for a pair of Converse canvas shoes for art exam. I love those hand painted canvas shoes. But now too old to wear. -
If a child is keen in art, given any white canvas shoe, will attempt to do a good job. Doesn’t mean $20 shoes they draw better, and $5 shoes they don’t. I dont’ think its a value I want to instil in my son - that you should treasure only branded and expensive things. Seems like the school is very brand-concious.
What sort of values is the school imparting to our boys?! -
I noticed no oral in SA1. Can I take it as sec no oral at all?
-
Hi. I'm a current sec 3 student of maris stella and according to my knowledge there will be oral exams for english. Just not like the normal ones you used to have in primary school. Students will have to make videos of themselves talking about various things ranging from family to school(well it was like that for me). Also don't be disheartened by the results your children get. My results were also like that when i first entered maris stella. I can tell you that it is no joke. The standards in maris stella are really very high, even compared to top schools. Just try to encourage your kids to do better and improvements should be seen. If there are any more questions please feel free to ask.

Thanks for your input. Nice to have a student on board! And i sure agree MS standards are high! -
I know I’m a bit ahead here… but can anyone tell me do the Sec 1s have any programs during the sep holiday week? Must they be in school? Also, when does the SA2 start?

I wish MS school website is more useful. I access the page as the platform to Studywiz and Admin Breeze. But it’s becoming such an eyesore seeing the page. It’s so outdated and doesn’t provide info like school’s year calendar and activities. Isn’t it embarrassing that it’s still showing 2008 announcements on the main page? Even DS’s neighbourhood primary school’s website is more impressive!
MITS has its own CCA website and it’s pretty good! I really hope the school’s front will be totally revamped soon, especially add photos of the teachers, the various CCAs, etc… These will help parents who want to see the teacher that their DS has been talking about and the type of team each CCA has. -
If you want to know the details check your son’s marist companion
