I was wondering :scratchhead: : how much per lesson is very very very expensive? Top up with 1-to-1 lesson to catch up with class: this sounds like the getting a tuition to help with catching up with another tuition class :shock: to help with catching up in class in sch :slapshead: ??? The \"web\" is getting more complex! :?

is in Bishan, near to CHS primary -
there are people who goes on from sec 3 to sec 4 class then JC 1 class under mr pang, after less than 4 months at each level …yes, for those who learn ahead and those in IP not doing O level and those who can speed-learn and remaining at current level becomes "boring"
so for sec 3 class you may have sec 2 students there
for sec 4 class you may see sec 3 and sec 2 students there
for JC 1 class, you may see sec 4/3/2 students there …
for those who are weak in the subject and need help in the current level, they continue in the same class especially those who need to do O level, and the way he revises the topics with them seem to be effective
fees wise, you pay the same rate at your point of entry, regardless which level you proceed to … very smart loyalty program lor … and it seems to work – if he is no good there is no need for "loyalty" onto higher level … -
1. This guy Phang Yu Hon is an extremely arrogant and pompous character.
2. He often brags about how great a tutor he is and that it’s a privilege to be in his class.
3. This guy lacks humility.
4. I have seen him throwing out potential students from his class because he feels the students needs him more than he needs them.
5. He fills his classes to the brim, sometimes more than 45 students a sitting.
6. He might be a popular tutor but don’t count on him going the extra mile or having the interest of your children at heart.
7. He is purely and solely motivated by money and profits to the point that he thinks he is running a business with monopolistic command of the market.
8. I have pulled my children out of his classes because of the way he treats his clients / students. Extremely rude and un-appreciative, too calculative and a time watcher.
9. He also runs his business like a production line. So forget it if you need an extra minute of his time.
10. He lacks personal touch and have forgotten he is running a service industry.
11. Bottom-line, I think he has forgotten his humble beginnings and acting like a spoilt brat.
12. This guy will never make it as a teacher in any MOE schools… the Principal will likely sack him for watching the clock, lack of empathy and the way he talks to his students.

Throughout Phang Yu Hon’s 22 years in the physics tuition business, he had turned away (not thrown out) only 1 potential student.
This happened on Sat 6 Feb 2016, during Mr. Phang’s Saturday night JC1 class.
A new student had turned up wanting to attend a trial lesson, which Mr. Phang did not offer.
There are 3 types of tutors in the tuition market, those who:
1. offer free trial lessons,
2. offer paid trial lessons, and
3. do not offer free trial lessons or paid trial lessons.
Mr. Phang belongs to the third type.
Normally, parents would enquire first over the phone whether their child could come for a trial lesson, and Mr. Phang would then tell them that he did not offer trial lessons.
Nevertheless, some parents still wanted to send their child for a trial lesson, without informing Mr. Phang of their intentions. This was still perfectly acceptable to Mr. Phang, as long as they did not announce their intentions. What you don’t know won’t hurt you.
If these students found Mr. Phang’s lesson suitable, they would then pay the full fees on the following lesson. If these students found Mr. Phang’s lesson unsuitable, their parents would call up to offer to pay for the first lesson, which Mr. Phang would accept.
In rare instances when the students’ parents did not call up to offer to pay for the first lesson, Mr. Phang would write off that lesson’s fee.
However, this new student who turned up on Sat 6 Feb 2016 said in front of the whole class that he had come for a trial lesson.
All the other students in the class heard him, and Mr. Phang’s existing students already knew that Mr. Phang did not offer trial lessons.
So Mr. Phang turned away (not thrown out) this potential student, as Mr. Phang did not offer trial lessons.
