      2ppaamm:
4 of my kids finished Grade 8 at 9 or 10 years old. So it is possible.

Wonder what age they started their grade 1? And what grade of exam did they attempt before they attempt grade 8 ( I am assuming they did their grade 8 arbsm. No? )? From what I understand, to pass arbsm grade 6 and above is very difficult. Willing to share how you did it?

For this course, is it a must to pass Grade 1 exam ? How to do it when they are not 6yo yet ?

Not necessary to pass grade 1 in order to go for audition
But I heard must be able to play grade 1 or even grade 2 level fluently. They are probably looking for prodigy potential?

If your child started learning around 4yo, it's quite possible to pass grade 1 by 6

Hi! Realised there are a lot of curious parents wanting to find out about the audition. I was in SYT for 9 years and can say I’ve been through quite a bit inside.

In order to audition to enter as Grade 1, your kid has to be 6 or younger. He/she would need to be able to play some basic piano, have about Grade 1 standard sight reading skills and superb ears for aural. The other grades, you’ll need to be able to play whatever grade pieces you’re auditioning for and in addition, the other components in that grades’ standard.

              You taught in NAFA before?

Oops, forgot to mention I used to be a student there. I’m now a piano teacher myself and have helped students get into the program so am quite familiar.

My 5 yrs old boy went for the nov audition , failed also bec they could not accept that he is taking grade 3 ABRSM nov 2011 at 6 yrs old . They agree he is talented but can’t fit their class standard. They say that he need to start from grade 1 base on his age and current technique level if to enroll in nafa. Really bias against other music school.

So if you want your boy to be in NAFA, then let him start from grade 1. Not a problem, bc in NAFA, your child can progress very fast.

                        Kind of contradicting :scratchhead:
I have the impression nafa's motto is to nurture prodigy
