science teacher gave 2014 mcq for homework (own school).
for english, the marking is very strict...one missing alphabet for synthesis, the whole answer is considered wrong. daughter was hopping mad but it is good for her to know how strict psle marking is.

It is good that the teachers are strict! I like!

I like it when teachers are strict in their marking...always remind her to be careful and check her work but fall on deaf ears. So when she sees the entire answer wrong, she will learn to check :xedfingers:

So true, better kids learn now what NOT to do than learn when they see marks during exams.

sometimes parents remind and remind them to be careful...but when the kids see for themselves how strict the marking is even for daily homework, they will understand why we nag at them.

Fact: Once kids go to school, anything parent say must discount like mad; anything teacher say is LAW.

DS2 has ugly handwriting but he is capable of nice. No change despite nagging and hand wringing. It was only at end of P3 last year when he was faced with prospect of using pencils (teacher only allowed those with nice handwriting to 'graduate' to pen, the rest have to use pencil), woah, suddenly there was a marked improvement in his handwriting.

Not sure if this has been asked before…is pencil allowed for PSLE? ds prefers using pencil for math

parents can repeat and repeat but hardly anything registers in the kids' brains...but will remember what teachers tell them :mad: mine will tell me, 'cannot. the teacher said must do this way.'

for OAS, yes 2B pencil.
otherwise it's pen.

Thank you Janet88. Hv to train ds to start using pen for all subjects. but wonder why his Teachers didn't say anything :?

hi shaz,

daughter told me her classmate did the comprehension open-ended in pencil and teacher gave her a warning not to do it again. it’s great that the teachers are really preparing the students for PSLE.
please remember not to buy frixion pens as it is specified that this pen is not recommended for important documents and exams.
