All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

Do you guys know other than PV, how can we find out more about the school? e.g. what are the students & teachers like, school facilities, what they sell in canteen etc.
The best way is to visit the respective Parents Networking Threads of the schools in KSP.com!
There are so many fellow forummers with children in the two schools that you mentioned. They provide \"insider\" information. So what if you are able to visit the school? You will only get to \"see\" the facilities, food that is sold in the canteen, etc. Our fellow forummers here will be able to tell you how good the facilities are, whether the food is nice, etc. Isn't it better? -
Hi Titank,
Actually staying within 1km of Nanyang Pri is not a sure bet at all. There are so many properties close to the school. My cousin had to go for balloting for his son (1998) for Nanyang and it was a year with low birth rates. The HDB flats are old and yet fetch so high prices, such a heartache to pay. -

Hi
I have been reading all the discussion, and frankly getting very nervous about this whole process. I am a citizen (naturalised) and so is my son.
I stay at Kembangan (416826), and am not sure what are the good primary schools around? Any advise? Do these schools need PV or still have chance in phase 2C
Also open to moving to another location, but again, new to Singapore so not sure which school to target for. Also have a younger daughter, so want to get my son into a co-ed so that next time can go for phase 1
Appreciate any advice.
Regards

at least the flats are bigger compared to the new HDB flats (plus there is going to be a MRT station in operation next year)!Hi Titank,

My friend also had to go for balloting last year (within 1 KM), but I think the chances were like 60-70%, much better than some schools e.g. West Grove, Nanhua, etc. -
New flats are new (of course), small but distant. Flats in Farrer Road, Clementi and Marine Parade are expensive but they have a view and of course enjoy proximity to good schools. My flat in Toh Yi is 20 years plusโฆbought it bcos itโs close to my parents.

According to MOE, all local schools in Singapore are good schools. But of course, some primary schools are more popular than others for various different reasons.
All popular schools would face keen competition for the limited vacancies (thus popular  , obvious right?) So, some parents would naturally try to improve the chances to get their kids into these popular schools by qualify for earlier phases (ie either through PV, etc).
They are parents who would put their faith in our MOE education system and choose schools base on convenient & parent-support; rather than popularity.
Good Luck in your school hunting !
And welcome to Singapore !! :celebrate: -

PV duties can range from admin, to watering plants, traffic warden, bringing kids on overseas trips (at your own expense), giving art lessons, washing sweet potatoes for Civil Defence day.
