Travel: Japan - General

MummyJune,
Are you talking about the leak that happened due to the tsunami that took place a few years ago?
If so, my suggestion is ~ how about avoid that area altogether? Many other very beautiful places in the southern side to visit … Okinawa, Matsuyama in Shikoku, Osaka, etc. Okinawa may be a little ‘ulu’, but it’s really unique and beautiful! -
Mummy AY,
yes, im referring to the radiation leak in 2011. well, is tokyo safe to travel? -
mummyJune:
Frankly, no one has the answer for you. There are still people living there, not only Tokyo but at Fukushima area. I still go to Japan, although I do not go near Fukushima. Many people are still travelling to Japan. There are also many others who won't go. You have to decide for yourself. No one can decide for you.Mummy AY,

Yes, people in Tokyo go about their lives as usual … when I visited the Skytree just about 2 weeks ago, it was so crowded with tourists and locals alike …

My view is to avoid traveling near that region
people are only on holidays for abt a week to 2 week, radiation exposure shd be ok . lots of places in Japan to travel , Osaka, Hokkaido , Nagoya etc the radiation level in these places are as low like Singapore

Hi all. I’m planning a year end trip of 8 nights to Tokyo. Is 8 nights too long in Tokyo itself? Any outskirts away from the city to recommend. Initial plan is to book Airbnb as we have 3 children but find it quite risky. Any good apartment to recommend?
Any idea ANA runs promo? Not sure we should purchase it now.
I would love to move around prefectures but hubby find it troublesome lugging around luggages. Is it cheaper to get the JR pass here? Appreciate your sharing of experiences. TIA. -

I had same concerns as you & had decided then to wait 6 years before going there. But I've just gone to Tokyo this cny. I agree with the other posters to decide on your own when is best to go. The truth is no one knows how n when it can affect a person. If you feel uncomfortable bringing your family there, then don't.Mummy AY,

I have decided to go there this year because, a group of my colleagues who went on a short trip to Tokyo n mt fuji just 2 months after the tsunami, look pretty well n healthy to-date.
Japan is indeed a beautiful n unique country. -

ok, I can only answer this part. We just came back from a 8 day trip, with 3 days out of Tokyo city. I find 5 days insufficient to feel the vibes of different parts of this big city. I missed out on many places I've wanted to visit like asasuka, ueno, ginza, shibuya n fish market. We only have time for 3 areas. -

It really depends on what you like to do. I may not do 8 days all in Tokyo, but each time I go a few days and do diff stuff. Moving outside Tokyo does not have to be troublesome with luggages. You can use luggage transfer service by TA Q Bin. I always use them. With 8 days, you can plan some time in Kawaguchiko or Hakone. I went Kawaguchiko in Nov. you cancheck out my experience in my blog:Hi all. I'm planning a year end trip of 8 nights to Tokyo. Is 8 nights too long in Tokyo itself? The November 2015 trip, was just a short weekend extension after my biz trip. Did not do the usual tourist stuff in Tokyo as we had done some of those in Dec 14. -
I am so excited about your travelling blog. Thanks Dnls_mum !
