Just to share that my boy likes the school and his classmates. He was from a SAP school and most of his classmates were also from SAP school. This is the first time that he has non Chinese classmates and he commented that they are very nice too. I am happy too as my boy feedback that the school is very strict in discipline. Overall we are pleased with the school and looking forward to the next 4 years. We had chosen this school due to few reasons. 1) though lower T a-score, 90% qualify for JC and 96% for poly 2) most importantly, because of the smaller cohort, the school.has more resources and students are given more opportunities to expose themselves.

This is a quiet thread that hopefully can be livened up with more regular contributions from parents. I’ll try to do my part.

My DD is in Sec 1 this year. So far she is enjoying her secondary school life. Long may that continue.

The school held a breakfast meeting for parents to meet teachers this morning. It’s a nice touch and less formal than the usual meet-the-parent sessions that I used to attend when DD was in primary school. This is a good way for parents to get to know teachers and verse versa.

In contrast to her primary school, Peirce has a small student population, which makes it easier for everyone to get to know one another. This I like.

My friends' kids have just graduated from Peirce. One was from express and the other one was from NA. They said the school is bias as the express would get to attend Adam Khoo motivational prog but the NA would get unknown speaker 😞 Both kids said their teachers didn't teach much and they had tuition . The NA kid was unfortunate as the teachers would always spend most of the lesson time scolding them! My friend went to meet the teacher and she said the class was always noisy and she could not teach them !

I’m sorry to hear about the bad experience of your friend’s children. As of now, I don’t believe it’s a universal issue in this school.

I like the fact that Peirce takes advantage of, and incorporates its lessons around, its proximity to nature. For her science lesson last week, DD and her classmates went down to the canal in the Bishan-Ang Mo Kio Park to collect water sample for clarity testing.

The school is also organising a run round the park for students and their parents in March. Good for family and teacher-student bonding. As the saying goes, it takes a community to educate a child.

As an aside, Adam Khoo is a polarising figure. Some think his motivation methods are effective while others believe they are too regimented.

                  Hi,

Like to share that Peirce has a wonderful Parent Support Group. They organise very informative workshop.

Last year, there was a Parent - Child Workshop aimed at helping both parents and child to do target setting and inculcate effective study habits. Personally, i think this is an excellent initiative. We attended with our DS and it has been beneficial. 😄

Recently, there was a talk on cyber safety towards teenagers. As most kids have mobile phones, it was useful to know what are the latest trends and how we as parents can better manage the kids.

Indeed, having a small cohort in the Express stream does have its benefits. Generally, his teachers are very caring. I like the fact that there are weekly tests (CA) as the kids would constantly do their revision. There are also pop quiz to prep the kids.

My DS is Sec 2, Express this year. He was also from a SAP primary school and there are a couple of SAP primary school kids in his class too. Overall, would say Perice is a good school and offers great learning experience.

Wish this thread could be more active and we can share more information. :rahrah:

My friend’s ds has just received a letter from the principal. Peirce will merge with Bishan Park Sec in 2018.

Yes, I just heard about it. Hope MOE will take into account the additional space required from the merging of two schools. The school canteen, for example, is just about adequate for the current student population.

I’m also concerned about integration. Not sure if there is any major rivalry between the students of Peirce and Bishan Park since the schools are almost side by side to each other. This shouldn’t be an issue in 2018 for students admitting in 2018. But the Year 3 and Year 4 students in 2018 may have a harder time getting along with one another since they would have formed their own cliques.
