      Hello everyone,

Here are some matters to clarify:

      1. H2 Econs has no subject-specific pre-requisite. Note that GPA 3.4 (including -0.2 from CCA) is needed to take 4H2. However, you can still take H2 Econs as part of 3H2 1H1.

      2. For my batch, some SBGE students transferred out of DHS before school started and there were slots available… The teacher said that he randomly picked from a list of students given by the school. To me, SBGE classes offer a better learning environment. It helps ex-GEP students ease into a more mainstream environment. These classes tend to have more active class discussions (ex-GEP students tend to enjoy contributing in such a manner) and students are more academically-driven. The teaching pace may be faster too.

      3. In my opinion, all the UGs in Dunman High are demanding. However, I would rank them as such: St John Brigade, Girl Guides, NPCC, Scouts. Secondary school is a good time to join a UG as it disciplines students. But if you have a passion in a sport or performing arts, by all means go for it.

      4. The school only accepted about 300 students this year because MOE already sets a limit. If not, more schools will have to close down…

        kiasuFoo:
dd has gotten B3 for HCL which is totally unexpected as she is a A student for Chinese all way long. DHS does not offer retake of HCL which will leave her the option of taking on H1CL or leave it be. She is worried that the B will affect her A level results as she has one less distinction. Will it affect university admission? Should she consider to take on H1CL which is kind of time consuming? Need some advice on it from parents... Thanks.

KiasuFoo, i try to chip in to help in some of yr concerns...though i am also at learning stage pertaining to Uni applications... 😉

        Computation of UAS ( university admission score) comprises of 3 H2 core subjects n 3 H1 subjects...( 1 H1 + GP+ PW)
Pls note that H1 CL cannot be used to replace other H1 core subjects...

The university will only include HCL grade if it is able to raise the competitiveness of the applicants...( that means the system will take in the best of the 2 UAS)

But if u are considering MTL related courses in Unis...pls read more from the link ...

        http://www.nus.edu.sg/oam/apply/local/a ... 1.html#top
        .
        .

If u were to compute UAS to include MTL ( HCL) ... The total ranking points of yr 3H2 + 1H1+ GP + PW + HCL will then scale down to 90%

Provide u here with the link of the UAS calculator which i found it online...u can key in the subj grades to see how HCL grade affects the computation of UAS...to help u to decide whether you wanna to take up H1 Cl or not...
( Note that only A grade will help in raising the UAS, if the applicant's has excellent / good grades for his/her 3 H2 n 3 H1 subjects... u'll notice that HCL A grade will only helps in the decimal places of yr UAS)...

        http://zueet.com/tools/a-level-universi ... calcpoints

Fyi, the sch Yr 5 SH TALK will also touch on the computation of UAS...they had shown us on the screen some examples of UAS computations with or without HCL grade...

            Hi,

I am a Year 1 parent and just sent an email to DHS as regards to the insufficient time allotted to 3rd Language students on Thursdays for lunch. I understand that 3rd Language students are allowed to eat on the bus to the Bishan language centre but I feel that this is insufficient.

If you feel the same way as I do and also have year 1 children taking 3rd Language classes in Bishan, please write in to DHS and provide your feedback and ask for a proper lunch break.

            Thanks.

            Mike

Dental Services is provide by School Dental Service (I think under Health Promotion Board) whose staff rotate the service among several schools in the area.

If the service is not available DHS on a particular day, your child can visit the school where the staff is stationed on that day.
