How come your dd does not need to take mt?

my daughter is exempted from MT.

So with the exemption, the total T score for your dd will be prorated? How does it work?

no idea...if the principal doesn't know how t score is calculated for 3 subjects.

Reading posts from Janet and ilovelaksa…

I totally agree that on the week of exams and even week before, they should stop giving papers. Doing more papers is NOT REVISION. Consolidating existing knowledge and going through previously attempted ( & corrected!!!) papers focusing on mistakes is revision. I have sometimes written to the teachers to inform them that my child will not be doing papers given during exam week. I must say that doing so has never adversely affected their results.

Schools seem to be giving conflicting messages to parents & children. On the one hand, they want revision to be seriously ramped up because of PSLE. On the other hand, they want the kids to continue their non-examinable projects and CCAs in a sense giving the message that everything else doesn’t stop for PSLE.

Two things I always, always, always wonder about schools (primary and secondary):
          1) Do they know that there are only 24 hours in a day? On some days , it is totally impossible to finish the work that is given and still get enough sleep and rest. I know for a fact that many kids forgo sleep in order to get all their work done. This is downright unhealthy and if the schools think that tiring kids out is the way to excellent PSLE results, they really need to re-think their strategy.

          2) Do teachers communicate with each other? Because some days , the kids come home with homework from every subject teacher. Wouldn’t it be more efficient and effective if their homework was spaced out?

Holistic education is more than heaping all sorts of activities on kids. It’s also about ensuring the these activities and lessons take place in a coordinated manner that benefits the child.

I know of a school that sends the message to pupils to look at the big picture. PSLE! Not CA1. Thus, the aim in the end is do well in PSLE.

this week is CA1 week. i hope my daughter doesn't come home with any homework...at least until thursday (last paper) so that we can revise what has been done and go through the mistakes made.

yes...the BIG picture is PSLE, not CA1 or SA1. if teachers and parents can come to an agreement that the PSLE IS the target, then there will be so much lesser stress.

my daughter's teacher did inform me that she is working on the open ended questions for science as the class is very weak in that area...they should be able to tackle this by psle. i am very grateful and relieved to hear that.

Math CA1 today. 2 papers down :rahrah:

i am trying to take it easy...but you know it's easier said than done.
for CA1, passing all the subjects (50-55) is important even if it's just marginal. after that, it will be scoring better marks bit by bit and then by prelims, i hope we can reach high end of 60 and perhaps into getting A for psle.

Passing mark is 50. May I know getting A will be at how many marks? And what are the marks for band A, B etc yeah?

Janet, Well done to your DD for finishing 2 papers!

Yes we should celebrate all the small successes.

My DS2 got most of CA1 results yesterday and results were pretty much to expectation - lower than his potential becos of lack of revision time. Since he had tournaments running concurrently with exams, we put rest before studies, so the results came as no surprise.

Like Sembgal and Janet said, its a journey this year...I choose to think that things can only get better 🙂

                        MrsKiasu,

                        A is 70-75.

                        SpartanMum,
yes, celebrate the effort…bearing in mind it’s the big picture we are working towards. when the child is sitting for a major exam, what is more important is the BIG picture.
