      Janet

Hope your boy is getting better now.
after taking the antibiotic, he told me he felt much better...that area is not as painful as yesterday. if he has any extra tooth to be extracted in the near future, i am going to request for someone more senior to do so.

It has been tough on him to suffer this pain since birth…with all the operations to repair his cleft one after another. I really feel so guilty not bringing to see the doctor yesterday.

Still learning how to handle all these madness every step of the way.

Janet, your love and support for your son is highly commendable. You have always been there for him so don't feel so bad.

Keep up the good job, you are a great mum as we can see from all your postings.

            :salute:

I don't know that the infection would be any different with a more senior dentist. Just use the salt water or antiseptic wash to keep away infection after the next extraction. I have had 4 permanent premolars and 4 wisdom teeth extracted over the years, and I can vouch that the salt water wash works!

the last time he had an extraction done, the senior dentist did not leave any follow up. when i had wisdom tooth taken out, the dentist gave me a set of antibiotics to make sure there will not be any swelling and also a bottle of mouth wash.

Janet, you have done alot for your kids…so no guilty feeling. I always tell myself this also. They are just too many things in my mind and some may just slipped through and I find myself getting more forgetful.

On his pain…maybe try get him do something he likes as distraction.

Yes, for wisdowm teeth, the standard procedure is to give antibiotics after extraction. Not for other teeth though, as far as I recall. I've never been given mouthwash, always the advice to use salt water!

I had my top wisdom tooth removed and dentist wanted to prescribe antibiotics. I asked if there are alternatives as the antibiotics are more preventive rather than prescriptive/corrective. I was given some enzyme tabs to prevent inflammation and disinfecting wash. More care needs to be taken, eg, proper rinse after each meal.

Infection sets in usually if aftercare is not done properly. That, no matter how senior a doctor or dentist also won't make much of a difference.

i got him to use my mouth rinse since he was afraid to brush his teeth.

anyway, i’ve been too complacent this time.
