I also thought so. So far maids' agency could only say nice things about those transfer maids as they also need to get them hired and make another round of agent fees. Another thing about transfer maids and there is a likelihood they will compare with their previous employer etc...I never believe in transfer maid. My only transfer maid that I have ever taken went MIA 3 times within 2 months. Before taking her, I spoke to the ex-employer over the phone who painted an excellent picture of a hardworking maid. However, as she could not stand the smell of cooking large quantites of garlic, the ex-employer had to let her go.
Thought I was so lucky :lol: but after one month, the maid started to lie and talked back loudly to me, even to the extent of shouting at me. At her last MIA, she stole a few of my bags, one of which is brand new. Only discovered it missing when I looked for it as I need it for my holiday. Damn maid. :x -

I remember reading in the S.Times some yrs back that they caught some people employin 2 maids and deploying them to other houses in the day and charging by the hour. I guess thats the reason they want to know why we change so often.moonee:

In 2005 October( I think) they started this new law, I was applying for my 5th maid but my application was not approved until I meet up with the officer at foreign manpower at Kim Seng Rd. I was also required to attend the employers course before I could take my maid. As my mum just had an operation I requested that they release my maid first then attend the course on a later date. They agreed.
I met the officer at Kim Seng and he asked me to explain why I had so many maids that year. I told him that the agent recommmended them to me and complained about my agent. The officer says if I have any problems with the agent, I should complain to the association of emplyment agencies as they are only interested in head count. He says i should keep the maid for at least 3 mths to get to know and train her.
He told me he will approve my application but the maid must work for me for minimum 1 yr. If i fail to keep her for a year , my next application will not be appoved. I argued that if my maid happen to be mad or sick then thats not fair. He says to bring medical cert etc. toshow that shes sick. Well, lucky my maid turn out ok and stayed with me thru out the 2 years. I told the officer that its not too fair to start the law and look back at my last one year and not even consider my previous maid that work for me for 5 years. They dont care, just interested in head count.
I dont know how its like now but I guess I will be having \"coffee\" soon with the officer as I have to look out for another :x -

My last maid (Filipino) could cook a decent meal or 2 and an old couple wanted her and sent her for Hep B blood test. Then that idiotic maid (sorry
) asked the agent whether the old couple had grandkids to look after. Can you believe that ? THAT DAMN SICKENING maid was actually choosing her employer !!! :x -

Agree with your comments that someone who is religious is more likely to be good rather than bad.
Sharing about my maid as suddenly have this feeling of gratitude towards her when she lightens my house chores so much that I can afford the luxury of time to type here, go play mahjong, etc…
My ex-maid came from a god-fearing family and she behaved herself well (not wasting, no stealing, wholly concentrate on working as opposed to handphones and what nots). Though we had problems with her hygiene, it was still overall ok. And yes, I'm grateful that I didn't have to do housework while she was around, and could focus entirely on my kids. -

Sometimes it's out of goodwill the ex-employer doesn't want to badmouth. My godma...when would be employers interviewed her about her ex-maid ( 3 handphones and stealing fingers), she didn't quite want to list out all the bad things...just quietly told them, \"she has 3 handphones\", and left them to work out the sums. So if we are paying $10/12 a day for her to sit there, I wouldn’t make any comment to potential employers. In fact, I would rather she gets sent home asap so that she doesn’t bully a new employer.
My idiotic former maid told the agency she wants to work for ang-moh the next time she comes to Singapore. Why ? Ang-moh give a lot of freedom, no need to cook and no need to be so clean. This stupid maid eats so much rice every meal…does ang moh eat rice ? Stupid woman. -
Anyone here tried to bring their helper directly from source? Other than the online transactions which I believe can be handled quite easily. What about other administrative stuff such as bring them for medical, courses, fetching from airport, arrange air tickets, etc… The whole thing would take how many days (ie take leave from work to handle all this).
