      hquek,

Those transfer maids sitting there will jump at any opportunity to find a new employer, or else they have to go home. Can’t they be upfront and say whether they want to work or don’t want to work ???
A friend of mine interviews maids and tells them upfront how many people stays in the house and her responsibilities. This way, there is no element of surprise if she takes the job.

My maid didn’t want to cook, do housework and play with a 4 year old kid, look after a family of 4. What does she want to do then ? Be Miss Philippines or Miss Indonesia ???

In that case, yah, why did she even bother to come out - to find hubby? (pref Ang moh hubby?). What i mean is that it's good they say upfront dun want to work for xyz, then xyz won't even have to consider. There is no surprise.

I really dunno how they think - pay so much to agent for fun?

Agents will protect maids bcos they are the LIVELIHOOD and main source of income. BUt if these women come here with the intention of being a domestic helper, they either have to look after kids, old people or housework. So if this maid doesn’t want to do this, why in the world is she in S’pore ? Her expectations are ALL wrong.

They're all trying to find a family with the least amount of work to do. But how many of these families are available for them to choose? Most family hire maids as they need help in taking care of kids or old people, plus housework. If the maid is not required to do any of these, then who wants to give up their privacy by taking and feeding a stranger in their house?

Anyone here tried to bring their helper directly from source? Other than the online transactions which I believe can be handled quite easily. What about other administrative stuff such as bring them for medical, courses, fetching from airport, arrange air tickets, etc.... The whole thing would take how many days (ie take leave from work to handle all this).

I'm trying to hire a Filipino maid direct, but I'll still ask my agent to handle it. Main reason is I'm not so clear with all the procedures involved both here and in the Philippines to bring out a maid. Besides, most of the costs will be paid back by the maid anyway so why going through the trouble to DIY. Don't think they'll be thankful to you for saving them $$. The only downside is we might lose all the fees paid upfront if they don't work for us long enough to pay us back 😢 .

Yes, maids want to find a family who is pref ang-moh employer, no need to look after kids or old/invalids and cook easy dishes (pref microwave).

Obviously if there is such a family, why would anyone spend money on agent fee, maid levy, maid salary, giving up freedom & privacy at home and also to feed and house her ???

I think they prefer Ang Mo family because these Ang Mo will give them off day every Sunday, not strict with their dressing, give them hp, will not chide them if kids fall down, allow them to have boyfriend. Anyway, these days filipino choose their own employers. When you interview them, they will also interview you back. They will want to know what kind of house, how many family members, how many kids, how old are the kids. My friend got turn down twice at the maid agency when the 2 filipinos maids said they want to consider first because my friend stay in a terrace house and her children all below 6 years old. Times are changing but if this turns out to be a norm then don’t think the gov’t should allow more maids to come in because it will become extemely difficult for family with young kids to hire willing maids.

Come to think of it…I realise its only the filipino maids who interview the employers! Haven’t heard of Indonesian maids interview employers. Anyone know of such cases?
