After 30 months, you can move to any place you wish to. No need to remain within that distance although MOE advises you to continue living near the school for the good of the child.

If I buy a place now which is within 1km of the school, and will get keys in early July, do I have to quickly reflect new address on NRIC (and when can I do this) or can just show S&P agreement?

Just show the S&P agreement with a clear indication of the TOP date and your ownership. -

Hi Cherrygal,
Please check pm. Have some advice for you.Tendertail:
But if due to unforeseen circumstances, what is the process for seeking permission from MOE/School for moving to another place? What if the new place is also within 1km of the school? Some landlords do not want to sign for such a long contract period...
I also have the same question. Can I move to another place that is also within 1km during the 30 months? Would you kindly PM me your advice too?
Many thanks! -
Hi,
I have the same query too. If move to a residence during the 30 months that is within 1 km, can? -
Also, can rent family member’s place of residence?

Hi, hope you can help advise on this. My flat is within 1 to 2 km of the school we are applying to. My tenants only shifts out in dec. So i can only move back in dec2016.
1) does the 30mths start counting from dec2016
2) do i need to change my nric add to my flat address
3) what do i need to show that we are shifting back in dec 2016?
Thanks in advance! -
Zinnia and Mathematica:
No changes of address within 30 months of the registration IF you used your address in distance priority at a popular school.
The 30-month rule does not apply to schools that have no competition for seats. Let’s say School A has 100 seats at Phase 2C and you are living at Address A 1-2km away. If only 10 pple applied at School A, you do not have to compete with anyone in terms of distance hence that 30-month rule does not apply to you anymore. If you wish to move nearer to or further from the school in this case, you can do so anytime.
If the school is popular and you used the distance priority to get your seat (thus depriving someone else of a seat), you cannot move to any other address within 30 months, even if within 1km. Checked with MOE before and they will only allow this if there is divorce or bankruptcy involved.
If someone had been successful appealing, please let us know.
Mathematica:
OK to rent anyone’s house. You must have a proper tenancy agreement for >30 months. Rent now, and use the address in the registration. Do not use another address to apply then try to change address later if your targeted school is the popular type.
Happyhippo:
1) The 30 months start from July 2016. You should break the lease and get them to shift out latest by end June or so. Registration starts in July.
2) If you are using the flat’s address in distance priority, yes, you need to change the NRIC address. The school will take the address reflected on the husband’s NRIC.
3) You can write in to MOE to appeal re Dec date if you are unable to break the lease. Better check first. Let us know how it goes. -
Thanks Cherrygal for your clear explanation. Indeed I’m thinking of applying to one of the popular school via phase 2C.
But it doesn’t make sense that we can’t move to another address that is still within 1km without risking our children being transferred out, or worse parent ended up going to jail.
