All About Parent Volunteers (PV)
-
Hi,
Since PV duties are diff with every school…I would suggest parents who wish to apply to be PV to write into the school of choice. Bcos application to be PV is not guaranteed. -

Wow, doesn't that amount to \"bribery\"??? Now must \"buy\" places to enter primary school ahh??? :roll:friednemo:
Hello,
Good morning all.
I have a question here. What are the duties for PV? I have heard of one which is giving tuition on saturday morning in the school. The other one which i have heard of is donating money(????).
?????
:?
PV duites are determined by the schools thus are different. -

That is not allowed. You can report it to CPIB ..... lolz -
Thanks. Would appreciate if you can also advise on mother tongue. As far as I see. most schools offer Mandarin, Malay and Tamil.
I am from North Indian descent and my mother-tongue is Hindi. Can I register my son into the local schools and yet get his mothertongue classes to stay as Hindi (say with another institution)?
What do I have to do during the registration process if this is possible? -

I believe it is possible, as I noticed from the exam timetable put up by MOE that there is oral exam for Hindi .... perhaps MOE can direct you. give them a call nowThanks. Would appreciate if you can also advise on mother tongue. As far as I see. most schools offer Mandarin, Malay and Tamil.

Hi
does anyone here know on what criteria does a school short list their PV applicants?
is it priority will be given to those that can volunteer during weekdays instead of ad-hoc basis?
anybody here ever rejected by school after sending their PV application form?
can i apply PV for more than one schools? -

Criteria is based on school's needs. There is no hard and fast rule.
I don't call it priority, but rather preference - but I'm fairly sure that parents who can volunteer during weekdays are likely to be lesser in supply and more in demand, as opposed to those who can only do so on an adhoc basis.
There are quite many examples of parents who were rejected either before/after interview phase and schools don't have to give their reasons for so doing.
You can apply to pv for as many schools as you like. But just remember that you can only register in ONE school during phase 2B (that's when the pv work comes into play). During registration, it does not matter how many hours you have put in; all are deemed the same - the priority is then given to children staying nearer to the school (within 1km, and then 1-2km, and finally leftover for more than 2km). -
thk u so much hquek for answering all my queries so promptly, tks again..

Schools have full autonomy in PV. Thus, different schools have different practise of how parents are selected, the duties, etc etc
I had been rejected by a school, luckily the rejection was quite fast and allowed me to try another school.
Yes, you can apply PV for more than 1 school. Some parents here did PV for 2 schools.
