NJC has a fairer admission system, no preference over GEPers. Maybe cos they don't have GEP programmes. So I guess not many GEPers will apply to NJC.

this will be 2nd year of NJC Sec 1 (2011). For a few years they only have sec 3 onwards

so, their potential students have all gone to HCI/RI/RGS/DHS/NYGH etc which provided the seamless IP program - certainty of a good JC as long as no major \"mishap\" from sec 1 to sec 4. NJC also loses out in attractiveness due to not having SBGE, so naturally all the GEPpers have gone elsewhere

hence there was a drought of good students entering NJC when COMPARED with HCI/RI/RGS/DHS/NYGH - resulting in not producing any president scholar for a very long period of time

now that NJC is playing catch up by taking in sec 1, but the competition for students is tough

You are right! Competition is tough.

Last year, they only took in 200 students.

So it's similar to last year. Still have interview? i think the interview is the scariest component.

Correction needed. This coming year will be the 3rd year of nJC sec 1s (in 2011).

There is an existing group of jH2s who joined in year 2009 (approx 150).
The current jH1s for this year 2010 (around 190).

So from this year 2010, nJC is already operating as a full 6 year programme with the Junior high (year 1s to year 4s) being their Integrated programme students. no students will be taken in at year 3 now. maximum for each year's cohort will be capped at 250 from next year onwards.

                      mathsparks:

based on heresay, for mainstreamers applying via academics alone (i.e. score more than 90 marks in year end exams), they've been advised to apply after the psle results are released..unless the student has particpated and excelled in competitions.

I do not agree with the hearsay, last year my DS's score was average 93 except HCL was in the range of 75. He got in HCI through DSA.

So, I would strongly encourage parents to try out DSA for their kid if you think your kid is up to mark.

                      God Bless!

Yr ds must be one of the lucky few! :celebrate:
I was just sharing wat I heard, nothing to agree or disagree.
