If you don't want to punch holes, you need to spend more money on clear holders, or buy those transparent plastic sleeves that come with punched holes for you to file into arch files. I buy them in packs of 100 for ds' tuition notes.

Saw some mobile filing cabinets at Ikea. Those with wheels which office has. You roll it under your study desk. Filing cabinet Dividers/Pockets could easily be found in Popular. Or it might come with the cabinet already.

Yes, transparent plastic sleeves is a good alternative. My DD uses this option a lot too.

How do your kids store their copious notes? My daughter gets huge chunks (and it's only April of JC1!) and she doesn't want to punch holes as she writes in the margins, and she says it's too troublesome. I've considered filing boxes, but she will need lots for 2 yrs of notes. I think a filing cabinet (which we don't really want or have space for) would be an overkill. Any suggestions?

How about punching one hole on the top left hand corner of the paper, instead of the usual 2 holes on left hand side? Can use those string or metal rings to hold the papers together.

Just have to be mindful not to write on that space meant for the punched hole.

I wont use those protective sheets - too expensive in the long run, more work to slip the papers into the sheets.

Else just staple the papers together (can buy those big staples meant for thick papers) and get those paper or plastic boxes to keep the notes. We get the paper boxes from Ikea.

Or get those paper folders (similar to those we used to use as art folio in primary school) to keep the notes and have a big box to hold these paper folders.

I think so too. And we would need huge numbers of them!

Sounds like a filing cabinet! I think I have to visit Ikea one day.

Aren't they bound in book form?

Punch holes and put in arch files, retaining the booklet format

Her's seem to be in chunks, unbound. She doesn't want to punch holes.

Well, she's agreed to give this a try (after her father said he used them during his university days too). I used to tie those \"green strings\" through the holes on lined writing paper as we didn't get printed notes in my time. As far as I recall, we only had the reading list on a printed sheet and all my notes were handwritten.

I also used the \"green strings with the 2 metal sticks at the end\". They were so popular during our times (we are of the same age).

But I don't think they are being used now???

Too \"old-fashioned\" for kids today, I guess? Even if they wanted to use them, they would come in different colours and designs now, not just green!

But the main difference is that now they get lots of photocopied notes and have to punch holes before they can use the string, and the bulk is too much for just a string! They don't need to take notes like we did in our time. I'm not sure that's really an improvement as taking your own notes can help you process and remember.

Elder boy has a box of them, hardly used as they come in big quantity.
