Please help me to solve the below question.
An MRT train was 2/5 full of passengers. At the first station, 1/2 of the passengers alighted and 17 people boarded the train. The train is now 1/4 full. How many passengers were there on the train at first?
Thank you.

Hi Maths Guru
I have 2 questions as follows which need your help:
1. There were 84 more books on the self than in the box. Grace transferred 30 books from the box onto the shelf. How many more books are there on the shelf than in the box now?
2. At a sale, 1982 towels were sold. Out of these towels, 514 of them were face towels, 312 were hand towels and the rest were bath towels. how many more bath towels than face towels were sold?
Thank you very much. -
hi jolyn,
1)
when you transfer 30 books from box to shelf.
box will minus 30 books while shelf increase 30 books.
originally there were 84 more books on the shelf than box.
so⦠84 +30+30=144 more books on shelf than in box now.
2)
514 face towels 312 hand towels
total = 514+312=826 towels
Total towels sold =1982
Number of bath towel=1982-826=1156
how many more? 1156-514=642 towels more -

Hi Guan Huihi jolyn,

so... 84 +30+30=144 more books on shelf than in box now.
2)
514 face towels 312 hand towels
total = 514+312=826 towels
Total towels sold =1982
Number of bath towel=1982-826=1156
how many more? 1156-514=642 towels more
Thanks for your answer but I do not understand as follows:
1. Why it is 84+30+30 and not 84+30-30? As box minus 30 and shelf increase 30....
Thks

Hi Mathsguru,
Pls help to solve this problem sum using models and TIA
Gabriel had some guppies. He gave 1/4 of it to Jenni.
Jenni had some mollies. She gave 2/5 of it to Gabriel.
Later 30 of Gabriel's mollies died. As a result the ratio of Gabriel's guppies to his mollies became 3 : 1. Jenni bought another 80 mollies. After that the ratio of Jenni's guppies to her mollies became 1 : 4 as a result.
How many of mollies had Jenni at first? -

Hi Maths Monster/adhdadhd,
Thanks for your fast response.
:salute:
Another :?: problem sum that needs model solution.
A has 200 more books than B. A gives 60% of her books to B. B then gives 25% of her books back to A. In the end, B has 200 more books than A. How many books does A have at first?
Plus this one from http://www.orlesson.org/orp/09Ma/2009-Math-SA1-TaoNan.pdf.
Leela and Kumar shared a sum of money. Leela's share was $90 less than Kumar's. After Kumar gave 1/7 of his share to Leela, Leela had $10 more than Kumar.
(a) How much did Leela have at first?
(b) What was the sum of money?
Cannot understand the given solution in the link, :stupid: Pls help with model solution.
TIA for all your help.
